I see everyone has made their posts and just about covered the show discussion. It was my first so of course I have nothing to compare it to, but I must say I am happy and the drive was well worth it! First, I thought Eliza was a good opener. She played a huge guitar that sounded great. Nice songs. I got to chat with her at the end of the show. I was surprised to see Rad as I expected Richard to play alone. Again, I have nothing to compare it to, but I thought his playing gave the songs a fuller sound. It didn't bother me that he'd forgotten the key on some of the songs. Both my friends, a Richard newbie and a Chicagoan who had never heard of Rad, Eliza or Richard, thought Rad was wonderful. They bought a cd of his, along with one of Eliza's, and Richard's of course. Dick said "Richard stopped a few songs before the end of the concert, and asked for suggestions. Roughly 200 people yelled something different at exactly the same time. He said "Never mind" and played Famous Blue Raincoat." I was one of those in front yelling out "Reunion Hill, Reunion Hill" to no avail. After the show we had Richard sign our cds. He asked what I wanted him to write. I said "To Carrie, next time I promise to play Reunion Hill". He actually wrote that before commenting " I guess I forgot to play that one, didn't I?" I mentioned that I was disappointed as I had driven almost 600 miles to hear it. He asked where I was from, I said KC. He said if I'd come that far I deserved to hear Reunion Hill and to hang around til he was finished signing, which of course I did. How sweet! He also said "Carrie in KC?" which I confirmed. He sort of rolled his eyes a bit. I guess some of my notes are making it through! Anyway, afterwards my friends and I, Eliza and Rad followed Richard down into the basement to hear him sing Reunion Hill. I was sitting almost knee to knee with him. I was so thrilled....and impressed! If anyone wants my autograph please send me a self-addressed, stamped envelope. However, after the show, Richard was nowhere to be found. Granted, its not a requirement to sign CDs or meet your fans or anything, but there was a young lady of 8 years old, attending with her father, who has gotten a signed CD from every show she has attended at the Old Town School. Well... Every show but one now.... Guess the point I am trying to make is that this young lady would rather go to a FOLK show with her dad than stay home on a Friday night and listen to Britney Spears or whatever. My daughter is only 18 months-- but she was giggling up a storm and dancing and carrying on like an overtired but very happy 18 month old Saturday night. Ellis Paul (joined by Don Conoscenti) played an early show at a Chicago area club, and since there was another band playing a late show, he invited everyone over to the smaller "SideBar" room, where he played for another 1 1/2 hours, signed CDs, took requests, tried to play obscure Beatles and Simon & Garfunkle covers.... There were about 50 people that stayed the whole time out of an initial 80 or so that crossed over to the smaller room; and I think its safe to say that those people will remember this show for a long, long time. Every show but one now.... Richard WAS in the lobby after the show. I waited about 5 minutes before he showed up. There were lots of fans getting cds signed. See my previous note. Just thought I would post that the WFUV website ( _www.wfuv.org_ (http://www.wfuv.org) ) says that Richard will be at the station on Friday morning, Nov. 19th, sometime in the 9am hour, for a live interview with the charming Claudia Marshall. ( New York City time ). This means that there's a good chance that Richard will be there - but as a practical matter - he might be on the air anytime between 8am and 12 noon. Pretty good chance he will be there between 9am and 11am. I assume he will be talking about the new record and the shows he is doing at Joe's Pub on Friday and Saturday night. Miss Marshall has a email address ( see _www.wfuv.org_ (http://www.wfuv.org) ) and I assume if you have questions you would like her to ask Richard - you can probably send her those questions - and she might ask one or two of them. Best to keep notes like that short - and throwing in generous praise of her wonderful show might be good too. AND - as long as it has come up - if anybody has an extra ticket for the Friday or possibly the Saturday night show at Joe's Pub - I am interested in buying it. As best I can tell - the shows are sold out ( duh... ) - althought the Joe's Pub website invited me to try again later so who knows? Having just seen Richard at Outpost I foolishly thought that I would not require another fix so soon. What was I thinking? Will he play his entire catelogue for me? Just kidding. A wonderful gesture from Richard. What an awesome experience to have Richard sing to you! I'm happy for you (and a little jealous!!) - although I am still pretty happy after seeing him in California twice in September and getting to talk to him after the show. I don't know how many of these they had but it sounded interesting! The dinner was to be after the show, somewhere two blocks from there. I wonder how many people were able to pony up that kind of dough! Janet __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!?
