Cancion Sencilla (Simple Song) My love, I'm sorry not to have written you sooner. Although I always wanted to, the truth is that I couldn't. What can I say? I'm a little slow. It took me all these years to learn your beautiful language - and still it isn't enough. So I offer you my first attempt: a simple song which says only that I love you. Already problems present themselves: your reflexive pronouns, your accords, your accents - not to mention your subjunctive, that fascinating, impenetrable, esoteric mystery. But, for the moment I don't need to use it. My love is so certain. (Chorus) I hope that we may pass our nights whispering, conjugating your verbs. Let's begin, you have so many: I live, you live, we will live; I love, you love, we will love; to leave, to return, to stay; and, of course to whisper, I love you. - -joe mlmarmer wrote: >I just got the new Richard Shindell CD, Vuelta, and it is wonderful. From the Long Island Business News: Koch Entertainment bilked to tune of $244K by KEN SCHACHTER PORT WASHINGTON - Koch Entertainment, the indie record company whose labels include Metal Munching Maniacs, Crazy Boy and Death Row, has been bilked out of nearly a quarter million dollars, according to police. Janel Bannister, a former executive assistant to Chief Executive Michael Koch, was charged with siphoning off company funds to go on a spending spree that financed a Ford Explorer, a Honda Accord and a deposit on a timeshare in Florida, police said. The 32-year-old Bannister is charged with stealing $244,140 in company funds through her access to credit cards and American Express gift checks that Koch Entertainment used to reward workers. "She would falsify business records to reflect that the purchases and debits were made for company purchases," said Detective Sergeant James Tilton, deputy commanding officer of Nassau County's crimes against property unit. Bannister, of Chesapeake, Va., faces charges of second-degree grand larceny and falsifying business records, police said. Koch President Michael Rosenberg, who was unavailable for comment, reported the suspected embezzlement on Aug. 5. Bannister, who joined the company in October 2000, surrendered on Oct. 26 to Port Washington Police Detective Jerry Rasiak, who conducted the investigation with Nassau Detective Ron Schepis. Koch officials notified police when an internal audit uncovered discrepancies in their accounts. "The lesson here is frequent audits," said Tilton. The 17-year-old company, with headquarters in Port Washington, distributes records for a diverse set of acts such as Ringo Starr, Carole King, Lil' Romeo, The Wiggles and Bob the Builder, and has become the country's No. 1 independent music distributor. (they were cheating advertisers by inflating circulation numbers and charging more to advertise). Sources said the reductions would affect many departments at the company, which employs about 3,000 people. Half the cuts are expected to come from the newsroom." Isn't it kind of funny that the article about Newsday, written by a Newsday reporter, and printed in Newsday has the phrase "Sources said..." I'm taking a cue from one of my motorcycle lists, and posting with "NRSC" (No Richard Shindell Content) in the subject line, so if you're looking for strictly Richard-related stuff you can skip the post. It's a quick and easy way to differentiate content that is not strictly related to the list topic, and makes it easier to skip over if you're not interested in that thread. Maybe we could all start to identify non-RS posts, so those that are not interested can more easily ignore them? This has worked very well on my motorcycle lists, I think it's worth doing here. Certainly the list is primarily to serve news of RS, but I don't mind reading about other subjects as well - besides, the man isn't constantly going to be touring or releasing new material! What say folks, want to give it a try? Davis in NY ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 12 Nov 2004 19:02:18 -0500 From: "mlmarmer" Subject: [RS] Richard's Mother! Well, in my posting about the new CD, with the group having a clarinet player, which I play, I forwarded that email to a clarinet list I am on and someone from that list responded about something pretty neat. His mother lives across the street from me on Cape Cod so I forwarded the post on to her. I know she'll be thrilled. She thinks Richard is great (and so do I) and will be very pleased over what you said. Thank you. There's a special reward for those who make a mother's heart glad. jack smith ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 12 Nov 2004 13:30:13 -0500 From: Georgette deFriesse Subject: [RS] Shindell-based politics > Let's get back to Shindell talk or at least Shindell based political talk! > Thanks, > - -Keith I believe it was the first night that Shindell played the Iron Horse, he was chatting with the audience from stage, telling us what he had bought that day. When he mentioned the NYT, several people in the audience cheered. Richard shook his head and said that the NYT is right wing and that living in a different country has changed his perspective considerably. While I wouldn't want to make it a requirement, if folks want to do it, go right ahead. It certainly can't hurt, particularly the recent turn the list has taken. I do wonder, though, given the political bent of Richard's songs, and his comment the other day when that person walked out of his show, exactly how far from his songs the political discussion would have to stray to be considered "off topic." Earlier in the show he made mention of Aschroft's resignation as the "good news" and Gonzales as the replacement "bad news". He gave a great show to a room of about 110. Had guitar problems though, which he later diagnosed as a problem with the drone of the room's ventilation system. It did, unfortunately, interfere enough with his hearing the tunings for him to be reluctant to go into certain tunings. It's OK, though, still a major treat. brian - -----Original Message----- From: owner-shindell-list-digest@smoe.org [mailto:owner-shindell-list-digest@smoe.org]On Behalf Of Norman Johnson Sent: Wednesday, November 10, 2004 4:33 PM To: shindell-list@smoe.org Subject: [RS] Transit question Some time ago, Richard replaced "Reagan Republicans" with "Ashcroft Republicans" in Transit.
