Chris: Thank you for posting the events in Boston. You are right - I do love the fact that Richard sang Abuelita and told the story. Briefly - for those who missed the link - there is a woman in Argentina who discovered she had been "stolen" as a baby and raised by - well - to some extent raised by her own kidnappers. Her parents had been "disappeared" - which means they had been murdered by the government ( in control of Argentina at that time ) - they have a much different government there now. Instead of the bad government arresting you, putting you on trial and executing you - thugs showed up in the middle of the night and took you away - and you were never heard from again - you just disappeared. Sometimes when pregnant women were disappeared - they were kept alive long enough to give birth - and the baby was given to a general and his wife because she was having fertility problems - and they wanted a baby. ( Or some other couple with the right connections who needed a baby ). This is actually so horrible that it is hard to believe it is true. But it is. Anyway - time has marched on. The bad guys are no longer in power. And people who have figured out that they were "kidnapped" as babies are trying to find their real families. Obviously, their parents are dead - but their grandfathers and grandmothers ( Abuelitas) might still be alive. And modern DNA fingerprinting is being used to make the connection. The story that Vanessa posted and I printed out to give to Richard is here: _http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/americas/3764718.stm_ (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/americas/3764718.stm) Short version - a woman named Victoria Donda Perez - who was stolen from her family 27 years ago - has discovered that her real grandmother ( her Abuelita ) is still alive and living in Toronta, Canada - and she plans to visit and meet her grandmother in the next few months. Since Richard went to the trouble to write "Abuelita" - he must have strong feelings about this. This is why Vanessa posted the link - and why I managed to pass on the story to Richard. And why Richard mentioned it at his show saturday night - and played the song. Kinda cool. A nice illustration of the fun stuff that can happen via the Internet ( or "Internets" - as the President like to call it ). Bet cash money when Vanessa posted the link she did not forsee that Richard would end up referencing the story and singing the song in front of what - a thousand people - in Boston. Sometimes the Internet is an amplifier. And also - thank you Chris for mentioning the "children's center" in Argentina that Richard is collecting money for. It has a spanish name - I won't even try. But Richard also mentioned it in Montclair and I forgot to post it. Rumor has it they collected a lot of money in Montclair - Richard fans are generous. Well... I have been a posting maniac this week. Maybe time to lurk a bit. bye ... NBC TV will be televising the results from here. This exhibit shows what can go wrong but hopefully wont this election year as opposed to 2000. Here are a few antiquated voting devices which could still be in use in your state. Be cautious with your vote. Another booth showed black and white marbles which our ancestors chose to vote for pro or con on issues. The Rockefeller Center Ice Skating Rink now has an underlay of the 50 states which will be painted in red or blue depending on the presidential voting outcome... Bush or Kerry. Personally, I prefer blue and urge you too. Here is the whistle stop train. All aboard.......Whatever your preference make sure you get on and vote Nov 2. Reproduction of the Oval Office. Note the red and blue carpet. Which is your favorite color?
