It was really fantastic, with both Richard/Lucy and the audience in a great mood. The show coincided with Game 1 of the World Series, as previously lamented by yours truly, so the crowd had a lot of energy that Richard and Lucy played with and used to good effect. Playlist-wise, the show was nearly identical to the Outpost set, as posted by Bob last week. (I think the order is correct, but it may be slightly off.) 1. Fenario 2. Big Muddy 3. Che Guevara T-Shirt 4. Mavis 5. Cancion Sencilla 6. Hazel's House 7. Waiting for the Storm (first time hearing that live...Richard rocked on the guitar!) 8. Abuelita (also first time hearing that live...and see below) 9. Are You Happy Now (with Lucy) 10. Last Fare (with Lucy) 11. Transit 12. The Kid (encore with Lucy) 13. Love Hurts (encore with Lucy) 14. ...one other encore song, I think, can't remember Bob, you'll love this: Richard announced, after playing Abuelita, that "someone handed him a note the other night" about the real-life Abuelita story, and he shared the story with the crowd. He didn't really provide any background info, though, so I imagine that many people who don't know the context were confused. Nice job! Also, Richard made reference to the "Che Guevara T-Shirt shirt" that he is distributing. He had intended to bring some along with him, but apparently they weren't quite ready. Finally, Richard promoted a charity fund that he has created in Argentina, for a children's center just outside Buenos Aires. Check out his website for info. It sounds like a great cause. All in all, a great night: the Sox won, and the concert let out in time for me to race home and see the last third of the game. :) - --Chris ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 25 Oct 2004 23:00:35 -0400 From: Hopedancing@aol.com Subject: [RS] Abuelita Hi all, I was so happy to see that Richard sang "Abuelita" at the Boston (Somerville) show! Bob and Vanessa, I think the very fact that Richard played the song is all due to your efforts in getting that article to him in such a smooth fashion. I don't think the song has been a part of his set-list on this tour... so it's kind of exciting to see that the efforts of list members to get pertinent information to Richard may actually have an impact on what he sings. How wonderful :) I love it! I was supposed to be at that Boston show too, but, alas, the universe conspired to keep me here in California all week. I even missed Game 1 of the World Series and lost out on all the Red Sox fever in the Boston area... Life. Thanks, Chris, for filling me in on all I missed. What's this about the T-shirt... is it for real? Or is it a hoax? I recall people talking about it long ago... but no one has actually seen it yet, have they? ~ Candace in California ------------------------------ End of shindell-list-digest V6 #228 ***********************************
