You know, Richard plays in Portland tonight and could possibly be driving north from Portland to Seattle in the next few hours. The big news of the day in the State of Washington is the imminent eruption of Mount St. Helens! The volcano alert has been raised to a level "3" (which is the highest level) and geologists predict that it will erupt in the next 24 hours... although no one appears to be in danger, they have evacuated the observatory that is 5 miles from the mountain's crater. People have set up "tailgate parties" and staked out their places for all night camping in order to view the imminent volcano. Mount St. Helens is about 100 miles south of Seattle (and even closer to Portland, I think). It must be pretty exciting to be driving tonight (if Richard *is* driving tonight) in the shadows of the Great Mount Saint Helens... it could be quite an ominous experience. My brother and I will make the trip from Whidbey Island over to Seattle tomorrow night to hear Richard. We're from California but visit family on this island often. There really is "something" about the island... and I am secretly hoping Richard sings "The Island" even though it hasn't been part of his setlist recently. The last time I saw Richard was at "The Mint" in Los Angeles a few years ago... and it has been much too long between concerts. My wishes go out to Richard tonight for safe travels in the shadow of the trembling mountain... Hopefully all the ash and dust from St. Helens will settle long before tomorrow night's concert... I'm really looking forward to the show :) Candace (from California.. and Whidbey Island) ------------------------------ End of shindell-list-digest V6 #212 ***********************************
