The beginning of what I guess could unofficially be considered the "Vuelta CD Release Tour" kicked off last night here in (perpetually) sunny San Diego, my first show out here since making the move in July. In front of a relatively sparse crowd of about 30 people at the United Methodist Church in Normal Heights, a very raspy-voiced Richard gave a good mix of new and old. Front-loaded with all the DADGAD songs (he only had one guitar, the Lowden), here's what he played: Next Best Western Fenario Che Guevara T-Shirt Cancion Sencilla (for you guitarists out there, that crazy chord at the end of the chorus is played 4x434x) There Goes Mavis Waist Deep in the Big Muddy Arrowhead Wisteria Beyond the Iron Gate Are You Happy Now? Last Fare of the Day Abuelita Courier Transit America (Paul Simon) Richard also announced a new piece of soon-to-be-available merchandise, but I won't spoil the surprise. Trust me though, it's perfect, it's hysterical, and we'll be hearing more about it soon. Now Richard's on his way up to Santa Barbara for a show tonight, then to Santa Monica for tomorrow's show at McCabe's.
