This morning ( Tuesday) at about 6:10am ( I think) I heard the lovely Claudia Marshall play Mavis for the first time ( that I have heard ) on New York station WFUV. First time for me hearing a cut off the actual new album. I liked it very much. Some very nice guitar work and a lot of interesting percussion stuff in the background - and a clarinet, no?, or was that a part of my "why in God's name am I waking up now fog? ". Whatever. It's a cute song... and I guess it's going to be one of the cuts off the album that gets a lot of airplay. Which is fine. But, has anybody heard them play "Last Fare of the Day"? Based on the reaction the song was getting in live performance, I thought it would probably get an enormous amount of airplay in New York especially. And maybe that will still happen - the album isn't really out yet. Be curious as to what others think are the tracks that deserve airplay. I think they are referring to them as "emphasis tracks" these days in the record business, and even WFUV has them to some extent. Claudia also told a short story. She said that she ran into Richard at Falcon Ridge, and that she told Richard that FUV has just received its copy of his new album. As a kind of a joke, Richard said " I know... It's terrible isn't it? ". And as a kind of a joke, Claudia said " Yes, it is". So she was lamenting on the air that she wished she hadn't said that cause she had some concern that Richard did not understand that her answer was indeed a joke. I wasn't there, but I am confident he knew she was kidding. Smiles reveal all in conversations like this. I will be interested to see how the album does. An album with a Spanish name recorded in Argentina might not have been what convention record company wisdom would dictate. But to me, it indicates Richard desire to make something a little different. Is it being released in Argentina? You think he will develop a new legion of fans down there? see ya...
