If you get pieces of me, there's some guy named shindell on harmonies on one song... kris delmhorst pops up a lot on her stuff, too. I think her discs are all quite nice, but pieces is my favorite cause I've lived with it longest, perhaps. (Plus it has Mars, fireflies and deserving song.) Bittertown, her newest, is also quite good. - -jim ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 20 Jul 2004 11:09:38 -0400 From: sharon G Subject: [RS] chapin on disc and live This Mary Chapin disc is one of her best...its a mature themed cd with a stunning band... Between Here and Gone speaks to loss, love, hope ...she has evolved and developed as a songwriter and musician.. if you get to see her live... she rocks the theater... tehre are few women who can play as many guitars and know what she is doing... she is a skilled lyricist, player and commands a great band with two electric guitarists... Three when she storms up the Rickenbacker... she is on the east coast this weekend and down to wolf trap for 2 and her summer tour is over... dont miss her...she is not to be missed... love the trumpets in patty griffins cd... at least its different..and a stretch... avoid the cowboy junkies.. i was bored... next up Sweet Harmony Revue.... sharon ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 20 Jul 2004 10:23:59 -0500 From: "kunigunda" Subject: Re: [RS] Other Artists If you think Patti is too country, then you will probably think Lori is also. I don't hear country, but I guess it's what your interpretation of the country sound is. Go to cdbaby to give her a listen. http://www.cdbaby.com/home No Ipod yet! Would like one tho, with the attachment for the car cd player. Speaking of other artists - CDbaby has a $5 cd sale if you buy at least 3. They are mostly artists I've never heard of but it might be fun to try a few out. (I did see one from Robyn's list; Adrianne-she's good!). Most have at least a few long clips so you can get an idea of what they sound like. I'm glad she tried - like I am glad Richard has tried something new on his new album br description of muscians - it just didn't do much for me...but the trumpets aren't at all overbearing and it's her best groups of tunes since her debut album IMO. Lori McKenna was mentioned...I love her first album but haven't really dug anything since. Though the track Richard is on with her on "Pieces of You" is beautiful. I have learned tho I am in the minority in jmy thoughts about her. :) There's a slew of highly regarded singer-songwriters that I dont take to at all, each to his or her own. > > next up Sweet Harmony Revue.... I always enjoyed her shows but found it annoying that she had certain songs that she always played with the same schtick around them. Girls and Guitars was one of them. When you see the exact same "act" verbatim year after year you start to think about spending your money somewhere else. So having seen Neil and Tim Finn perform last week, I've been listening to mostly just them. And a few weeks ago, I went to a couple Peter Mulvey shows, so that's when all his CDs came back into rotation. :) And Richard seemed to want to tag along with Peter. :) And a few more artists I love, but who haven't been in the rotation recently: Ani DiFranco Dave Matthews Band The Nields Brian Joseph Matt Nathanson That was fun. - -Gina ************************** "i will not be afraid to let my talents shine..." - -ani d. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 20 Jul 2004 17:23:17 -0700 From: Chris Thomas Subject: [RS] new album Hi Everyone - someone was saying that it is possible to hear samples of stuff from the new album.
