Been planning on this one for a while now. The Somerville Theater is great, and really versatile: larger than your average folk venue, yet still intimate, with great seats all around. It's well-suited to smallish rock concerts and quieter performances alike. It just seems a bit more quiet and intimate. This is a song that I've tried to request the last couple times I've seen Richard, but he hasn't played it (he's played Sonora's Death Row, though, so maybe I need to speak up so he can understand which song I'm requesting). << An interesting concept: "Nora's Death Row." A song about two men drowning their sorrows at the bar over Nora's impending execution. I guess there WAS some sin. Although not nearly as clever as "Kenmore of my Dreams." ;-) RG ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 14 Jul 2004 09:51:27 -0400 From: Tom Neff Subject: Re: [RS] live vs. studio Or "Next Best Wisteria." (Nothing beats a small club, but for theatre venues nothing tops Somerville.) I am orginally from CT and remember going to shows up in Mamanarock(sp?) NY at the Emelin and while its a nice place, there's no comparison to Somerville. I saw Peter Mulvey's CD show for "Ten Thousand Mornings", Billy Bragg, Ellis Paul and Vance Gilbert, Greg Brown, Garnet Rogers, and Odetta there just in the last few years! And besides Richard, I will be there to see Dar Williams in December and the BoDeans in August. If you haver to choose between shows - and the Somerville Theatre is an option - pick Somerville. You could even go further by saying at which live gig do you wish to compare studio v live. My thinking is that if he is really up for the gig then that might be a different version to a gig where he is not so enthusiastic, say if he had a cold or sore throat etc. Alan www.candleicious.biz the home of scented candles "I don't know the key to success, but the key to failure is trying to please everybody." Mr. Frey (and others), I would love your supportive heckling (heckling support?) on Thursday if you have nothing better to do - after looking at our heavy-hitting panel line-up, I told a friend the other it reminded me of a Sesame Street song ("one of these things is not like the other, one of these things doesn't belong"... :-) I cannot wait for the Friday Night Songswap - besides Richard and Lucy (and I'm pleading the Fifth on Greg Brown), I have been a huge Eliza Gilkyson fan since hearing Melancholy Muse on The Women of Kerrville CD. I bought Redemption Road on the spot (it's still in my Top Ten) - I have only had the pleasure of seeing her live once... but that's about to change! I have also adored David Bromberg for *decades* - You've Got to Suffer If You Wanna Sing the Blues indeed... Of course I'll miss the presence of Ms. Williams but it sounds as if Dar Camp will have many familiar faces - I'm counting on Isabel for some late-night tunes as well... :-) Susan http://www.heartsdesireconcerts.com http://www.horseofadifferentcolorbooking.com "Calendars of our lives circled with compromise Sweet bird of time and change, you must be laughing..." ~ Joni Mitchell "With the things you know now that only time could tell Looking back, seeing far, landing right where we are..." ~ Dar Williams ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 14 Jul 2004 11:21:07 -0500 From: "kunigunda" Subject: Re: [RS] Nora's Death Row I'm enjoying this!!
