Oh well...it was a good 2 hours each night of unending amusement for me while I yelled at the tv and jokingly told my dad I apparently got a bad education because I have a MS degree in geology and I was never taught those things ;) The sad thing is...there are people who actually think that could happen. The geologist in me wanted to both cry and laugh :) - -Kristen >From: ThisWasPompeii@aol.com >Reply-To: shindell-list@smoe.org >To: shindell-list@smoe.org >Subject: Re: [RS] Re: list >Date: Tue, 4 May 2004 11:08:55 EDT > >OT: Anyone see "10.5" last night? Jersey, capital S, capital J. > Deb How come Pennsauken isn't in Pennsylvania? Can anyone list some songs about Pennsylvania besides "Allentown" by Billy Joel? We all know "The Boss" has written several 'bout Jersey. And of course "Philadelphia". Check out: http://www.loc.gov/folklife/guides/Pennsylvania.html Here's the official state song: Pennsylvania Written and Composed by Eddie Khoury and Ronnie Bonner Pennsylvania, Pennsylvania, Mighty is your name, Steeped in glory and tradition, Object of acclaim, Where brave men fought the foe of freedom, Tyranny decried, 'Til the bell of independence filled the countryside. Chorus Pennsylvania, Pennsylvania, May your future be filled with honor everlasting as your history. Pennsylvania, Pennsylvania, Blessed by God's own hand, Birthplace of a mighty nation, Keystone of the land. Where first our country's flag unfolded, Freedom to proclaim, May the voices of tomorrow glorify your name. Chorus Pennsylvania, Pennsylvania, May your future be filled with honor everlasting as your history. The official state song of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania was adopted by the General Assembly and signed into law by Governor Robert P. Casey on November 29, 1990. One especially fine example is Michael Smith's "Lady Susquehanna," from his 1993 Rounder album TIME. Of course there were many folk songs back in the mining days, some with local content and some adapted from "the old country." But I'm sure there are other contemporary examples, I just can't think of many. Rich Grula had one on a Big Happy Crowd album some years ago. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 04 May 2004 22:16:51 -0400 From: Howie Subject: Re: [RS] Pennsylvania Songs?
