A friend's review of last night's show: I saw richard for the second time this tour at caffe lena in saratoga (early show)....not close to a sell-out,which was disappointing..it only holds 85 seats, maybe 60 filled...BUT...it was like richard was in your living room...quite the show...DAVE'S TRUE STORY was the opening act...about 30 minutes...richard sat during his own set and simply was amazing on guitar...sitting so close made you appreciate how good a guitar player he really is...here's the line-up. - -THERE GOES MAVIS...richard said it is his favorite new song he's written...he obviously loves singing it...this will sound great with the musicians from argentina. - -FENARIO...great guitar work, and one heck of a hummable chorus. - -WAIST DEEP IN THE BIG MUDDY..caffe lena being one of the oldest folk houses in the counrty, lots of people sang along on this one word for word...it being a very famous pete seeger tune...gave lots of credit to pete for singing this on the old smothers brothers show, even though this song got the show canceled. - -SPANISH SONG...i don't understand a word of spanish, but he has written what in my mind is one of his most beautiful melodies he has ever written. - -HAZELS HOUSE...great to hear this one for the second time...great line about this being what heaven is.(not exact words)...reminds me of my aunt's house when i was growing up in queens,ny...solid new tune. - -CHE GUEVARRA T-SHIRT...richard said the song is more like a short story...i LOVE how you get sucked into the song very quickly...great lyrics. - -ARROWHEAD...first of the "oldies" set...lots of applause once he started, and again great guitar work. - -REUNION HILL...by request (of me!)...my wife and i simply adore his slow version of this one,and without other musicians, you can really feel the power of the words. - -SUMMERWIND COTTON DRESS...nice to hear this one again, played it straight forward. - -WISTERIA...by request of a 7 year old girl in the front row...richard was beaming when she asked...you can tell he is probably a great parent and is into kids...had trouble with his tuning and joked with the girl if she wanted her request in tune...she nodded emphatically YES...big applause for the girl...great version. - -ARE YOU HAPPY NOW..lots of laughs during the song, maybe from people who were hearing richard for the first time. - -WAITING FOR THE STORM...audible gasps from several audience members...i take it he does not do this one too often...GREAT guitar work during the tune. - -TRANSIT..best line of the night...he again had tuning troubles and said to his audience " i tune because i care"..LOTS of applause for that...caffe lena had a reputation of a serious folk house and they simply loved richard...powerful version. - -LAST FARE OF THE DAY...what can you say....I, along with others, have fallen so in love with this one...i sure hope lucy added harmonies on this...he did say the new cd was scheduled for august on KOCH records...still no title...last song of the set.. - -AMERICA...what an encore...the whole room sang it with richard,he was obviously very happy. i couldn't stay for the late show,as i had a gig myself..hopefully,they had a decent crowd...no WHIPPORWILL...no FISHING...but also no complaints...about 95 minutes straight,no break...happy easter to richard and his family as he heads home to argentina. and happy easter to all on the mailing list..i feel so fortunate to have seen him twice this tour..hopefully he will go west,so his fans out there can hear the new songs...CAN'T WAIT TILL AUGUST...frank jaklitsch. ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 11 Apr 2004 18:32:46 GMT From: ptpowerlists@juno.com Subject: [RS] Tracy Grammer's Violin A number of you are not on the Dave-and-Tracy list, so I thought I'd drop a note that friends/fans of (Dave Carter and) Tracy Grammer have begun a "Wounded Healer" fund in order to help replace Tracy's aging (over 200 years-old) and deteriorating fiddle/violin.
