This is encouraging as it seems the last 2 bookings are part of the fall tour. Maybe he will drift down this way after the Chicago performance. If necessary I could go up there...it's a bit far, but I do have a friend there in need of an arm twisting (don't think she's a music lover). If the form of my reply is not within the accepted practices of this group, I would welcome feedback on how to more appropriately respond. Rongrittz offers a very good intro to the Delaware Water Gap for those who do not live in the region. The pictures are very evocative. I would like to add, as a transplanted Iowanian, a perspective of my first trip East many years ago and the dramatic atmosphere of this area that was overwhelming to me as I passed through for the first time. Of course, I speak of a perspective moving from Iowa to the DWG and then on to the NY metro area. When I first heard "Transit", my reaction was to recollect this place of such difference--this watershed--now as a resident in the region, looking at the DWG as a jumping off point away from the NY urban sprawl, as the drivers in the song would have. It would be a rare person, no matter how agitated, who wouldn't be impressed by the deep woods and mountains that seem to lead to places of possible greater mystery, even as you negotiate the traffic on the highway that cuts through this all. It is easy to imagine the drivers in the song moving into a vortex there, or, at least to be transported from the close-quarter aggression that driving the NY metro highways always asks for. BTW, I would also like to add, while I am here, that a personal favorite of mine, "Ascent", is my recommendation for a wonderful tonic from the oppressiveness of the whole "Passion" media juggernaut going on right now. To be grateful and feeling lucky to have been given the gift of eternity is a terrific response to the forces of the spiritually entitled who seem to be so happy to contemplate the torture and murder by which they choose to define their entitlement. Wars will be fought for less. TMc ===== Date: Thu, 4 Mar 2004 22:23:00 EST From: Rongrittz@aol.com Subject: Re: [RS] transit >> Gotta ask about Transit, a bizarrely wonderful song. Although I am from Long Island (now living in southern CA), I've never driven the stetch of freeway referred to in the song. I'm curious: is there a section where the freeway approaches the Deleware Water Gap that would inspire this song? << It's where Route 80 passes between Mt. Minsi and Mt. Tammany near the New Jersey/Pennsylvania border. Here's a link to a site with pictures to give you some sense of the area: http://www.worldfromtheweb.com/Parks/Delaware/Delaware.html RG ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 5 Mar 2004 07:00:04 -0800 (PST) From: Keith Tomlinson Subject: [RS] Tours and Shows Sorry Everyone, It has been bugging me for the past year the poor quality of getting the word out for Richard's Shows. With the announcement that Richard will be playing tomorrow night in Cambridge, it brings to my attention that there is no one spot to get information on a Shindell show or tour. The two links on www.ricahrdshindell.com are useless, there are only 2 shows listed that are valid. Sure we (members of this group) received a list of upcoming shows last month, but this was not announced to the public. And this list did not even contain tomorrows show I believe in Cambridge. So does Richard/Agents, Etc. want people to know that he will be performing? Is it a supposed to be a secret? Because I thought the reason for touring was showcase Richard's wonderful music, and promote him. You would think everyone involved would want people to know about a show, and make it easy for the public. Im not out for anyones head, just want to know what can be done, or if anyones even listening. I would take up the job, if I even knew where to start. Is it someones job already? ~ Keith Yahoo! It's a misprint. You can go to Richard's booking agent's site for all currently booked shows. It is updated regularly. http://www.flemingartists.com/sh-itin.html RG ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 5 Mar 2004 07:14:13 -0800 (PST) From: adam plunkett Subject: Re: [RS] Tours and Shows Keith, Richard is not playing tonight in Cambridge. That was an error on WUMB's website. He is playing in Cambridge on April the 6th. I asked a uestion about that to verify that UMB had made a mistake. Sorry for any inconvenience. On that note, I was happy to see that in November Richard is playing the Somerville Theatre here in Massachusetts. It is one of the best venues and a venue that only a handful are able to play.
