The last time I saw Richard play (at Ashland Coffee & Tea here in Virginia), I asked him about Godfrey Daniels. See, I grew up in Bethlehem, but had never heard of him while I was living there (though I admit I was quite small when he was there). I had never been to Godfrey Daniels either, until recently when my step-father, a blues musician, played there. It shocked me that such a cool little place would be hiding in dusty, old Bethlehem! Anyway, I keep wishing that Richard would play there again so that I'd be able to take my grandmother to the show. When I asked him, however, he said that it was too small of a venue for him now. Ah, well. Godfrey Daniels is an awesome place to hear and experience music. Although it's nearly a two hour drive from our home in NJ, my husband and I try to get there when we can because it's one of our favorite places to hear music. The performers seem to really like it too - including my favorite band, Tanglefoot! Although they're from Canada, they call Godfrey's their "home away from home." And even though they are five big guys with a big sound, and Godfrey Daniels is a small place, it works great!!
