Alternatively, if the dollar keeps sliding against the pound (tee hee!) many of us will soon be able to afford to fly over to catch one of ther East Coast dates anyway.... In the meantime, those of us "stranded on the wrong side" can at least console ourselves that we have the exclusive opportunity to see the 'Redbird' musicians playing together...and I'll be doing exactly that tonight! gerry __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Most of which are true. My pet peeve about this festival wasn't mentioned - that Sherlock Holmes couldn't find information other than the dates of the fest until about two weeks before it starts. I have gone for at least one day of this three-day annual event for the past two years. Yes, the room is a big high-ceilinged box with awful sound. Yes, the acts last year included a jazz ensemble made up of ladies and gentlemen all over the age of 70 (who were very good) and a couple dressed in pirate outfits singing sea chanties (who were probably among the best mixed sea chanty duos in the Greater New York area.) However, popular touring acts like DaVinci's Notebook, Christine Lavin, and Dan Bern, as well as regional acts like Little Toby Walker have been featured part of the festival the past few years. As it is free, if you live close enough you can come by just for the acts you like, watch them do a 45-50 minute set, and head for home. The place has been completely full each time I have gone, and they do not let standees in, so they keep people outside the doors until seats open up. This does account for a lot of milling around. With Richard playing two days later in Peekskill and a week later at Joe's Pub, this is not a necessary show. But, if you want to save $30 a pop and skip a two-drink minimum, it may be worth it. Meanwhile, there is no truth to the rumor that the new CD, fearing competition from early Christmas releases, has been pushed back to April 2005. Is there? Is there? >> No, but if you think being a Richard Shindell fan is frustrating, imagine the plight of us poor Cheryl Wheeler fans. Her last studio CD, "Sylvia Hotel," came on in January of 1999. With nothing since except a compilation CD featuring two new songs. I must agree that it is a horrendous event in some ways but the music can transcend that. Despite the problems, I had a really good time the year I went.
