I love "grey-green" and many of those you mentioned but my favorite was the cover of "America" (Simon and Garfunkle) done during 2002's tour. Good stuff. - --Tricia _________________________________________________________________ Compare high-speed Internet plans, starting at $26.95. https://broadband.msn.com (Prices may vary by service area.) ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 18 Nov 2003 12:06:33 -0500 From: B Gallagher Subject: [RS] The BG Shindell Top5 Here are my Top5. Fellow listers are advised to read the legal disclaimer. Arrowhead Wisteria Fenario Sonora's Death Row Confession (Sonora Sessions) You Again Cold Missouri Waters Courier Fishing Transit Bart Legal Stuff: This is the BG Top5 as of Tuesday, November 18, 2003 - 9:56 am. The writer is under no obligation to sequence the Top5 in any order, including but not limited to overall preference, preference at this moment in time, preference at another moment in time. These Top5 represent the writers best effort to select five, and only five Shindell Songs without the aid of beer, ale or stout. The writer wreserves the write to wrivise the Top5 at his whim. Further, he reserves the right to include more than five songs in the Top5, but acknowledges that the Top5 should be limited to no more than ten songs, for no reason other than it really wouldn't be a Top5. Except as noted, the Top5 does not specify or imply which versions of each song are preferred. The writer is free to vacillate between studio recordings, live recordings, or personally attended concert song versions. Further discussion of true preference would require beer, ale or stout. It's Tuesday morning and I have coffee with International Delight Cinnamon & Hazelnut creamer w/ natural and artificial flavors. Further, the introduction of beer, ale or stout could alter the Top5, though it is likely that other songs would be added, rather than to substitute a song at the expense of an already listed song. This Top5 was formulated without the benefit of recorded versions of new material. Songs do not have to have been written by Shindell, but must have been performed by him in public at least once. Songs that he may sing privately to his wife or children do not count. Songs that he may sing while showering or camping do not count. Songs written by others that in the opinion of the writer, or in the opinions of other listeners, "would be good if covered by Shindell" are not eligible for inclusion in the Top5 until said song is actually performed by Shindell, but not just around a campfire. This opinion may or may not be shared by others, including expert listeners and/or casual listeners of music. The writer welcomes and respects all opinions expressed by other listers. > ------------------------------ > > Date: Mon, 17 Nov 2003 21:28:40 -0500 > From: "Adam Plunkett" > Subject: RE: [RS] songs on the brain > > My top 5: > > Sparrow's Point > Fishing > Wisteria > Transit > I Saw My Youth Today > > >> [Original Message] >> From: Ron Alderfer >> To: shindell-list@smoe.org >> Date: 11/16/2003 7:34:37 PM >> Subject: [RS] songs on the brain >> >> It seems quiet lately, and since I know there are other new folks like me >> that join this list from time to time, I'd like to get your opinions on >> favorite RS songs. What about songs that Shindell has performed in public but also sung while camping or in the shower? Your disclaimer would seem to exclude those songs. - --Chris ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 18 Nov 2003 19:01:27 -0500 From: Subject: [RS] Fw: shindell-list-digest V5 #254 > 1) Transit-I feel this is the best all around song he has written and we all > just take it for granted, as good as just about anything anyone has written > 2) A Summer wind -images of madison county?? > 3) Arrowhead - civil war buff > 4) You stay here > 5) Are you happy now-this always brings a smile to my face and makes you > wonder who this woman was! > dan > In hearing his new work 3 times now I'm sure once the new album is out some > of that will join this list ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 18 Nov 2003 21:18:16 -0500 From: Norman Johnson Subject: [RS] Mary M and a Chris Smither question A couple of days ago, the public radio show "The Connection" had a program on about Mary Magdalen. On the program was a woman who has a site devoted to Mary Magdalen(e). http://www.magdalene.org/contents.htm No, she doesn't have the song on it... and I just e-mailed her to tell her about it. Another thing-- While surfing WRSI's playlist, I saw that Chris Smither has a song called "lola". Is this the Kinks song or something original? Has anyone here heard it?
