Ron's idea of a monthly like mp3 (Mark Erelli, Peter Mulvey do this) is nice but that, I think, would deal with Richard's view of taping as well as his taping community which I think is very small as I have never met a taper with any Richard Shindell shows. Why go to the site if it never changes? I look at this list daily, but I probably don't go to richardshindell.com once a month. Instructive contrast: Go to Richard's site, and the news page tells you that Courier is out. Go to Eddie From Ohio's site, and read a 2000+ word journal entry from Mike Clem, including his thoughts on the Pedro Martinez-Don Zimmer incident that happened way back on, what was it, Saturday? Please update the NEWs section with something current....anything, regardless of how trivial, e.g., "Richard is into the McValue double cheeseburgers at McDonalds this week". Or Richard is looking forward to touring the midwest. Whatever..... Carrie in KC > Greetings, > > I've been thinking about Richard's web site and how to make it more useful > and more interesting. Must have been after my time!!! << Harold and Maude is a cult movie from 1971, about a relationship between a 79 year old free-spirited woman (Maude) and a 20ish man (Harold) who is obsessed with death. I believe a thorough discography (including those elusive singe tracks) would be beneficial. I would love to hear some low-fi live, rarities or demos, but that might be asking for the moom. I'm all for content, myself. Nothing wrong with slick graphics and all them there doo-dads and features (I am, after all, an art director and suppose to give a rat's behind about how things look!) but like Zenith used to say, it's what's inside that counts... some interviews would be nice. An updated list of gear, since probably any hardware he mentioned in that section is now in the hands of listers, mostly! Even a sometimes updated list of what he's listening to or reading might offer some food for thought. I feel like the current site is pleasing enough from a design standpoint, that might only need to be updated when new albums come out to keep the feel current, but it's completely static as far as what it tells you. I haven't been on lately, but what, the last news was about Courier coming out? (Alice Peacock also has a good site, btw, in my opinion. Updated often, graphically pleasing yet fairly fast to load, actual news and info...) jim colbert ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 14 Oct 2003 17:53:19 -0400 From: B Gallagher Subject: [RS] Re: shindell involvement I'm not in the biz so I don't know about fame and ?fortune? But if there was a message board or a web site that sort of revolved around me, I'd like to think that I would provide input or participate on some level. I know that a songwriter can't answer every thread. And maybe it's good to just let people wonder about...things, and to interpret meaning, and draw their own conclusions. (Ronald Reagan liked "Born in the USA" - get me some music from the Boss, Mommy). But, there are a few subjects/topics where it would be nice to hear from RS himself. Scott's input is welcome as he and Ron G seem to have legitimate links to the Artist formally known as Richard Shindell :-) BTW, this isn't at all a dig at RS for not participating (He has been good to fans after shows). Maybe having a list about your stuff, your name/face on t-shirts, etc. is kind of weird. Remember, to paraphrase Mr. Z - Just because we like his stuff, doesn't mean he owes us anything.
