Nope, it's four....PLEASE bring Richard to Europe some time. Please please please. I wasn't even in the country last time he was here, which I think was '97 with Joan Baez - am I right? If so, six years is wa-ha-heeeey too long. Maybe a European tour-ette to try and promote the new album? Or...any of the last four albums? Hey, Katrin! Nice to hear from you - I was wondering if you were still on this list! (Slightly hypocritical that, since I post on here once every 2 or 3 years!) I email Richard's manager and say "Mark, we're getting rumblings from California." And he says "Got it." As you can imagine, however, mapping out a tour is much more complicated than this, but it helps to know where Richard's fans are and who's jonesin'. Thanks, Scott - very much appreciate your help! I finally got to see Richard last May at the Palms in Winters, California. Awesome show. Now every time we go I ask the owner, Dave, if he has been lucky enough to schedule another show with Richard. He keeps telling me he's trying! ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 6 Oct 2003 12:27:10 -0400 From: patrick t power Subject: Re: [RS] Re: Covers Howie wrote: >>Actually, there are two Michael Smith songs I'd absolutely love to hear Richard perform - Crazy Mary and Vampire. There (http://www.artistsofnote.com/michael/lyrics/there.shtml) - I could very much envision Richard covering this love song with an Oz connection (okay, it's a streeeeeeeeeetch, but it works for me... :-) Speaking of Michael, I had the pleasure of hearing one of his songs on our local folk and acoustic radio show yesterday - Michael Stock, our deejay, announced it was from a new Live CD and I just went searching... http://www.artistsofnote.com/mic hael/ Plus if you haven't heard Zippy (http://www.artistsofnote.com/michael/lyrics/zippy.shtml, previously unrecorded), you're in for a real treat! He had tons of people onstage, including a wonderful accordion player who's been mentioned on the list. I asked Richard after a show once if he ever thought of recording it, and he said no, it was just for fun-- he said the Old and in the Way (Jerry Garcia, Vassar Clemens & Co) version was the best. He's right, that is a great rendition, but Richard really did a fine job on that tune as well. Does anybody else like this one? I've long thought of it as a quasi-response to "Famous Blue Raincoat" (although some of the details are a bit off) written from the perspective of the other man. Made me want to complete the trilogy with a song from the woman's perspective. And here I thought I was so clever. *grin* <> If I'm not mistaken, Richard's song is a deliberate continuation of the "Peggy-O" tradition. And how could he not be a Jerry fan? Is anyone from the list planning on hitting the Halloween show at the Towne Crier? It's in Putnam County (NY) not too far out of the city. He did this last year too, and I wouldn't miss it for the world. Probably one of the few dates when we can be assured of hearing "Are You Happy Now?" Anyway, this is a fabulous venue and the Halloween bit is quirky. I figured it might be fun to meet up with other serious fans.
