Thanks for your input. I got a note from Scott Shindell. He said he would pass it on to Richard's manager. I hope that's worth something! Last year when I checked R's tour schedule I saw he was booked midweek at some small city in Iowa!! It was the next night and it would have been tough to find someone to travel with and a bit too far for me to go it alone...that's as close as he's come as far as I know. I'd have to agree that this neck of the woods is more in tune with country music than anything else, but I was surprised to see how many Lucinda Williams fans there are here. She really isn't what I'd call traditional country. And I'm happy Kristen in Lawrence is ready to book R. Everyone please keep me posted. I don't want to miss him if he shows up anywhere around here. Hey Jennifer, who would be considered the promoter? His manager? Kristen? I'm not clear on that. > Hey Carrie- > > One of the biggest factors in booking a performer in a region is the demand from > the promoter for the artists, which is based on how well that person will do in > that area. Everyone please keep me posted. My husband is an arts/entertainment writer at the Kansas City Star. Although I can make no promises, I would do my best to get Shindell some publicity if he came to Lawrence or Kansas City. There's a wonderful venue in KC. The Community Christian Church was designed by Frank Lloyd Wright. The church has fantastic acoustics, plentiful parking and is located in midtown about a block away from the Kemper Art Museum, the Nelson-Atkins Museum, the Kansas City Art Institute and the Country Club Plaza (arguably the most scenic spot in Kansas City). Doc Watson has played at this church several times, as have many other folk artists. Here's a link with a picture of the church: http://www.community-christian.org/index.htm ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 7 Sep 2003 12:20:21 EDT From: JamesIGreene@aol.com Subject: [RS] Re: shindell-list-digest V5 #189 Kristen writes: > I work with West Side Folk in Lawrence, KS and believe me we have been > trying to get our hands on Richard for some time now. That being said, some of my favorite artists play out there all the time. For instance, I saw Brian Joseph for the first time at a house concert in Lawrence. Brian was an amazing story teller and totally rocked on the guitar. He did an amazing show and since I moved to Philadelphia, he hasn't come out here to play a gig. I guess it is just hit and miss with who has a base where. Kol Tuv, James I. Greene ------------------------------ End of shindell-list-digest V5 #190 ***********************************
