And the band had a tough time with the tempo of "Summer Wind Cotton Dress", a request where he asked the guys, "Do you know it?". But even with the flubs, I'd rather hear it live than on Memorex. Live music! I don't remember him messing up "Reunion Hill" that night, and I thoroughly enjoyed "Arrowhead" and "Summer Wind Cotton Dress". Still can't say enough about that Gibson J-45, man that guitar shimmered. I agree with Theresa, can't see RS doing "What Kind of Love" solo. I actually like the cross gendered MM and Reunion Hill, But "WKL" is really a girl song, the Neilds' girl song. Well, we've indeed been able to move the ones he no longer wanted. Without giving away any names to honor privacy, y'all may be interested to know that the Martin D-15, the Gibson WM-45, and the CFox Cedar Reserve are now owned by members of this very list!!! If any of the new owners are interested in sharing their thoughts about their new instruments, I'm sure we'd be thrilled to hear them. Happy playing, RG ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 2 May 2003 12:51:39 -0400 From: "depaul" Subject: Re: [RS] Re: Mishaps & Train Wrecks Well. I cant' speak for playing my LOVELY NEW CEDAR FOX RESERVE yet since it's still in the shop being repaired. Interestingly enough, it's exactly two years today that some idiot knocked it over and broke it. (For those of you who don't know, I'm the idiot.)(See now truthfully I had this whole thing planned. --Don't tell Richard -- Took one look at that guitar and said I have to have it.....hmmm....bump...oops. The rest was destiny : ) hee hee ) So, as I said to Ron earlier, I'm passing the time by thinking what song I should christen it with and I had pretty much decided on Dark-Eyed Molly in DADGAD (Which I do instrumentally) but now I just feel so so sorry for poor Gene that I've decided to do THE WEATHER! (I'm not Richard, Gene, but it's SOMETHING anyway) See I know how you feel since Richard never honors my requests for LAZY (Which, by the way is an amazing song so those of you who keep knocking it as trivial CUT IT OUT! Also heard somewhere along the line that he added an extra verse which I've NEVER heard) I'm thinking that maybe Gene and I are just gonna have to start stalking Richard and one night we'll catch him walking down some dark, deserted road late at night and offer him a ride. Put on some tunes and offer him a cigarette, which he will ,of course, refuse since he gave up smoking but we will insist since we know what's ahead for him and then at knife or gun point (you choose, Gene. Either's fine with me.) WE'LL FORCE HIM TO PLAY THE WEATHER AND LAZY. If it's fatal. It's fatal. So happy anniversary to my lovely guitar. May you be in my arms soon. And, as always, thanks Richard. See, he says that an "up" song like "Lazy" is so far removed from the death/greed/sorrow/murder songs he usually writes, that he needed to add a verse that would bring the song back to more familiar RS territory. So he sings this: I know This song is stupid I should get serious Write something morbid I'd really like to But I'm too . . . lazy . . . Along with Ron G. playing it in Glen Rock a couple of years ago, that may be as close as I ever get. Shelley, had I known you would make this generous offer, I'd have broken one of Richard's guitars years ago. In honor of your kindness, I will refrain from making any disparaging comments about 'Lazy' from now on. I can make do with 'TV Light.' Gene F.
