Me too.  Can't match it.  The closest I can come:

Joined some two dozen people in Lawrence to hear Dar Williams perform in 
someone's basement rec room, complete with 1960s shag carpeting and a TV and 
wrought-iron swag lamp as a backdrop.  I requested "This Was Pompeii" and she 
said, "How do you know about that song?"  (A friend in Utah had heard it and 
knew I would love it.)  Later Dar joked about the folk musician's life, 
saying, "Yes, go into folk music.  You'll make hundreds and hundreds of 
dollars!"

Saw Townes Van Zandt in a makeshift auditorium in Lawrence with maybe fifty 
people (1996? can't remember).  He seemed to be sober and he put on a 
tremendous show, introducing song after song with the words, "And here's 
another one that hasn't been recorded yet."  The weather was violent, but 
Townes calm.  He said, "I can't think of another group of people I'd rather 
be flooded and tornadoed with."
