So far, I'm thinking: Before You Go I Am The Island Last Fare of the Day Che Guevara T-Shirt Grey-Green Hideous Grin Farewell to St. Dolores Now, I'm not sure whether "Before You Go" would appear on a regular RS release, and whether "Hideous Grin" will ever see the light of day. Has anyone heard RS doing anything else recently that might make a potential CD? I think life/lists are a lot more interesting if we don't all agree lock-step with each other. If as a result of all this we are better able to discuss with civility those matters as to which we share passionately different opinions, so much the better. Besides. If we excluded Bill we wouldn't have a chance to change his mind on things. :) Lisa not-elwestrand (I agree "Lisa" is boring, but I was born Lisa Nachmias............) PS. So what book was it? ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 16 Apr 2003 23:18:00 -0400 From: "scott shindell" Subject: [RS] The New Songs Here's my two cents: I think Richard's hit a good songwriting vein, having produced a number of fine tunes since Courier -- - - Before You Go - - I Am - - Last Fare of the Day - - The Island - - Gray Green (or is it Grey Green?) - - Che Guevara T-Shirt That's a great start, IMHO, and he's still mining that vein. Working on new songs, letting some others perculate. Who knows what's next. Or when. But the songs will come, with or without prodding, as will the new CD. So sit tight, and stay tuned. He hasn't forgotten you. I would have wanted to cry (more likely scream) if someone had been singing along within earshot of me (unless, of course, it happened to Lucy or Dar) -- at any rate, I promise it wasn't me. I was seated way up front and don't even know the words to his songs by heart. It's not just the lyrics. Maybe the musicians on the list know what it is. The Courier Sparrows Point Memory of You By Now Fishing Money for Floods You Stay Here In "By Now" Richard paints a devastating scene without ever spelling it out. It's what they teach you in every writing class: show don't tell. "Fishing" has a kind of redemption at the end because the man does not betray his friends, but there's no redemption in "By Now." Except perhaps that the song exists. I don't know how Richard can portray such terrible sadness without making his listeners want to eat the business end of a gun, but he manages. I guess he's--duh--an artist. Donna ------------------------------ End of shindell-list-digest V5 #95 **********************************
