Lucy came on first. She sang wonderfully, her Martin ringing with expressive chords. Lucy was pretty funny at times too. She played piano for one Joni song. Richard joined her for three songs. Her 9/11 song was very moving; pretty much expressed what lower Manhattan was like. Later, Richard was joined by John Putnam on electric and pedal steel, and Byron 'Mega Tone' Issacs on bass, who was fine. I did miss Lincoln and Denny. Richard played as well as ever and his guitar (Gibson J-45 I believe) really sounded alive. He actually used two guitars, both tobacco sunburst. RG could you please confirm guitar info? New songs included Last Fare of The Day - not about a Martin Scorsese Taxi Driver. RS can romanticize almost any occupation. I wonder what he could do with 'Environmental Engineer'? Also, Gray/Green and Che Guevara Tee Shirt. Lucy sang too, and I wish she stayed to sing more. They have a nice rapport. I was hoping to hear Sonora's Death Row, and gently seconded a request for Wisteria, (we are moving from our first home after 18 years). But, Cold Missouri Waters w/Lucy and a beautiful "The Kid" more than made up. R&L were joined by John & Byron for St. Deloris. The final encore was a very well done duet of "Love Hurts" (Everly Bros., Roy O, Nazareth). Finally, at the risk of igniting another row of political banter, his water came 'straight from Maine'. I haven't listened to any tunes all day, still letting it soak in. What a nice night of music. Great guitar, with the best neck I've ever played on a Martin. Unfortunately, he's not selling that one. ;-) RG ------------------------------ End of shindell-list-digest V5 #87 **********************************
