The show was at the Northern Westchester Center for the Arts in the Colleen Dewhurst Theater, a small theater that appeared to hold about 300. Richard was accompanied by John Putnam on electric guitar and pedal steel and (forgot his name) on bass. Here's a list of songs in approximate order: The Courier Beyond the Iron Gate Che Guevara T-Shirt Last Fare of the Day Grey Green Fishing Wisteria Arrowhead Reunion Hill Darkness Darkness Next Best Western Ballad of Mary Magdalen Before You Go Are You Happy Now? Transit After "Reunion Hill" Richard commented that he was thinking of the song and how it related to soldiers fighting in the current war, both American and Iraqi soldiers. Near the end of the show he commented that he wanted to do more benefit shows. He added that since the government is spending $80 billion killing people the non-profit organizations need all our help to make up the lost income. After the show there was a wine & cheese reception and my daughter got Richard to sign her backstage pass and CD sleeve. We would have liked to stay later, but it was 10:30 and the kids had school today, so we headed home. Richard and the band were in great form and seemed to have a lot of fun playing the benefit. He alternated between two guitars, and spent a lot of time tuning them which generated some chuckles from the bass player. All is all a great show. In fact I would say that it was better than his Courier recording which I consider to be outstanding. Great introductions to the songs. I was surprised after the show at how "quiet" Richard is. He seemed slightly taken back when I asked him to sign my backstage pass and the cover to Courier. I got John to sign the backstage pass as well. I had hoped to get the bass player to sign it as well (can't remember his name.) But it looks like he took off to Brooklyn right after the show. I asked Richard if he any plans/desires to do Austin City Limits. He seemed interested but I got the impression that he never looked into it. I know the booking staff at ACL is very particular but lesser known artists (with fewer recordings) have played ACL and being that Dar Williams has played ACL, Richard should certainly be a contender. I incorrectly told Richard that Lucy Kaplansky played ACL as well but I don't believe that she has (yet.) I was thinking of Patty Griffin. I first learned of Richard from the other PBS music show Mountain Stage. Mountain Stage is a great show but I love ACL. I consider ACL the greatest show on TV. I wish they would show more re-runs or sell videos. Yahoo! Inconceivable! Hey you guys, Hi (I guess) wrote: >>I first learned of Richard from the other PBS music show Mountain Stage. >><< Well, if you live in the New York City area, and get WNYE (Channel 25), which is the official TV station of the New York City Department of Education (who knew they even had one?) you can see this episode in about two weeks. I think. They have been running the first season of Mountain Stage TV in episode order. According to the Yahoo! TV listings, tomorrow night at Midnight (which is actually Sunday morning, of course) they are running episode 110. On Saturday, April 19 at Midnight (which is actually...you get the idea) they are running episode 111 (featuring, among others, Vance Gilbert.) Richard is on episode 112, along with Big Sandy and His Fly-Rite Boys, and Alejandro Escovedo. This should, barring some scheduling catastrophe, such as the sudden availability of lost episodes of Schoolhouse Rock or something, be aired at the Midnight separating April 26 and 27. I can't be sure of any of this, since I haven't watched any of the other episodes, but if you can't trust the Yahoo! TV listings, who can you trust? We do get Channel 25 at our house, except it's on Channel 22, which is what you get when you permit cable companies to be monopolies. Gene F. (who, tonight, will be seeing Richard and Lucy, the Jeanette MacDonald and Nelson Eddy of the 21st Century, for about the tenth time together. Which rhymes with 'Weather.' Which, I presume, we will not be hearing.) _________________________________________________________________ Tired of spam? The viewing area is quite large. Secondly, in no way can you trust the Yahoo TV listings for PBS stations As a perfect example WNYE 25 NEVER FOLLOWS the standard Austin City Limits schedule. They show whatever they want. And they have never shown the Towns Van Zant tribute show as far as I can tell. Next, Mountain Stage does not always replay entire shows they cut and merge performers with others. I've seen sections of Richard's show with numerous performers. Same with Nanci Griffith, etc. Lastly, is it even possible that WNYE could ever maintain a standard schedule? How many times have they listed Mountain Stage coming on at 10pm on Saturday night only to have it finally air 12 midnight. Also they keep pushing Mountain Stage and ACL on later and later. I seem to recall it being on at 8pm. Of course PBS 13 never plays any of these shows being that they are the "snob of PBS" although they used to have a cool show called "Sessions at West 54th." Ran for about a year. WLIW shows ACL on Friday nights at midnight. WNJN doesn't show any of these music shows. Yahoo!
