Well said, Lisa. I would add that although Richard's lyrics lean toward pacifism, I doubt he believes in simplistic answers to complex questions. I see ambiguity in his lyrics (which is, to me, a sign of intelligence) and that's one reason I'm a fan. I don't like to be lectured, but I do enjoy examining the human condition. OT: Recently saw "Antonia's Line" on cable. Wow! ::::::::recalling movie dialogue (paraphrasing Schopenhauer) "life is hell full of devils and tormented souls"::::::::: Donna "This will be our reply to violence: to make music more intensely, more beautifully, more devotedly than before." -Leonard Bernstein ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 10 Apr 2003 11:31:35 -0400 From: "scott shindell" Subject: [RS] Politics Since the words "politics" and "polarize" have the same root, I vote for no such discussions on this list. Let's keep it to music. I'm already surrounded by enough arguing. I just love Johnny Cash songs. Live at Folsom Prison was the very first record I ever bought with my own money, when I was, like, 6 or 7. (John Denver's Aerie was the second. Now, I acquired other records between them, but those were the first two I actually saved for and purchased.) I know rs has done Merle and George Jones covers at times- anyone ever hear him do any Cash? I always liked the completely over the top live version Bill Miller does of FPB, by the way. Why, sure Jim, don't you remember when the 3 of them (DW, LK, RS) were doing Cry, Cry, Cry as their encore back during the C3 tour? :-) They would each do a verse and usually have the opener join them and sing a verse.
