Shindell has written and covered many songs about people through history. Examples: Immigrant and immigration man in Fishing. The story of Irish immigration to America in Paddy's Green Shamrock Shore. A Civil War Confederate drummer boy in Arrowhead. A Civil War widow in Reunion Hill. The military messenger down through history in The Courier. Growing up in the Depression of the 30's, Union Riots, and finally waiting "3 days West of Normandy" and the invasion of Fortress Europe in Sparrows Point. The Mann Gulch Smoke Jumper disaster in Cold Missouri Waters. The Banks of the Pontchartrain. Farewell to the Gold. I'm wondering, are many of you history buffs? Also, does anyone know the story behind Paddy's Green Shamrock Shore? Did Richard write it? If not then who did, and when? Is it a traditional piece? Bill Ft. Look on their web page: http://www.falconridgefolk.com/index.html "Three days west of Normandy" is a line from the song "Sparrows Point". Hope this helps! Janet - --- "Sandra J. More examples: Abelard and Heloise (Nora) Mary Magdalen And "You Stay Here" is supposedly set in Bosnia ("if the Tiger comes one night/ he wouldn't go without a fight"). The Tiger refers to Arkan's troops. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/europe/304559.stm I think it was Carol Love who nicknamed Richard, the history chanel of folk music.
