Well, I guess because this list frequently talks about other "folk" artists, many of which have NOT toured with Richard, NOR recorded his songs, NOR have plans to tour with him again this summer as Joan does. So, it seems to me that a Baez related question does not seem out of place at all. (Except to the Bashers.) Dave Who is really hoping that Richard might persuade Joan to undertake another tour of South America, including Argentina of course. Joan's last tour (during the time of juntas and dirty little wars and Pinochet and official stories) was met with tear gas, bomb threats, cancellation of permits by authorities, kicked out of hotels, etc. All her concerts had to be held in churches or universities. Times have changed to some extent. What a great way to expose Richard to more people on his "home" turf. I imagine that he speaks fluent Spanish by now. Perhaps he will record in Spanish too. And include a duet with Joan! OK, end of fantasy. (Be easy on the flames.) Ooops ...another idea ... a concert in Argentina with Richard, Joan, and Mercedes Sosa! :) And another idea ... translated version of Abuelita. Now that would be very powerful indeed! Sting has a strong moving song that has had quite an impact in Spanish, more so than the English version I believe. "Ellas Danzan Solas (Cueca sola)" ["They Dance Alone"] It is about the "mothers" (sisters, daughters, wives) of the disappeared. Wouldn't it be great for Richard to have such an impact. Dangerous though for him and his family since they live in Argentina. Maybe it's not such a good idea after all. Just thinking out loud here. ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 20 Apr 2002 18:04:32 +0000 From: "Adam Bailey" Subject: Re: [RS] Wondering what Baez has to do with Shindell / Richard in Latin America I have a feeling most of us on the list don't mind the Joan discussion. Now how some of us feel about her talent and competence is a completely different story, but nothing wrong with including her on the list (since she is touring with RS). >From: DavidSped@aol.com >Reply-To: shindell-list@smoe.org >To: shindell-list@smoe.org >Subject: [RS] Wondering what Baez has to do with Shindell / Richard in >Latin America >Date: Sat, 20 Apr 2002 13:12:10 EDT > >In a message dated 04/20/2002 01:56:34 Pacific Daylight Time, >owner-shindell-list-digest@smoe.org writes: > ><< Dave, wondering what this has to do with the Shindell list. > >> >Hello Dave McKay from another Dave. >Well, I guess because this list frequently talks about other "folk" >artists, >many of which have NOT toured with Richard, NOR recorded his songs, NOR >have >plans to tour with him again this summer as Joan does.
