Subject: [RS] Garnet & Greg, Patty & Lucika & Me

  Actually the song that Garnet wrote for Greg Brown, which he performs on 
his new CD, is easily the best cut on the album.  If you haven't heard it yet 
you should, it's a masterpiece and I couldn't stop listening to it when I 
first got it.  Garnet is a very special talent and his love for the genius of 
Greg Brown in evident in this very touching tribute.
  On another subject, any Shindell Listers on here Patty Griffin fans as 
well?  Has anyone else had the chance to give a good listen to Patty's new 
"1,000 Kisses" CD?  The record opens with a song called "Rain" that is one of 
the best Patty songs to date.  Positively chilling, and that voice, that 
angelic voice...My God.  This record is decidedly simple and spare, closer to 
"Living With Ghosts" than "Flaming Red."  And while many will welcome Patty's 
return to acoustic arrangements, I still miss the scorching, high frequency, 
layered rock production of FR.  Never thought I'd hear myself opting for Rock 
over Folk, but in Patty's case, rock becomes her.  Perhaps even more than 
folk.  Then again, I'll take her any way I can get her.  Still kicking myself 
for not getting tickets to either of her two shows at the Public Theater in 
NYC for last night or tonight.  Then again, I get to spend time with Lucika 
and Rick at The Brokerage tonight.  Can't wait.

Tell him he'll understand in a few years...okay, well, maybe QUITE a few years...! Not all
of us are smart enough to get it right the first time. (those who have met cynthia know I
nailed it the second time though.) BTW, we're also having an open mic as part of our
reception...boy, eliminating all the gloom and doom and lost love and sad songs sure
knocked the wind out of my brief repetoire list!)
