Yeah, me too, but I think that's at least partially due to never having seen him without a 3 hour attached! jpc bellefonte pa (although the harrisburg PA show would have been under 2 hours, we opted for the more intimate venue at Godfrey Daniels, btw.) ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 25 Feb 2002 10:37:17 -0500 From: "Isabel Frey" Subject: [RS] Richard at CSI A little more about the Staten Island show. Richard was wonderful as always. The beard has filled in quite a bit. Set list: Next Best Western Beyond the Iron Gate I Am Mary Magdalene (tuning!) Fishing AYHN Transit He also led the band in Sing Me Back Home later in the show. It was fun to see Richard play percussion during one of Joan's songs. Dave and Tracy sounded great during their songs, but Dave's harmonies with Joan sounded off, especially on If I Wrote You. Maybe it was because we were sitting close to the front on the opposite side of Dave, or that the sound system wasn't that good. I was never a fan of Joan Baez's singing voice, but she did seem like a genuinely warm and funny person. Her rendition of Steve Earle's Christmas in Washington didn't impress me, but she obviously keeps up with new artists and it's great that she showcases "new" talent. It would have been easy for her to dust off someone from the 60s to open for her, and I'm sure some of the crowd would rather have seen someone they already knew. Judging by the applause, the audience really did enjoy Richard, Dave, and Tracy. Gene overheard people talking about Richard later, and the comments were favorable. I didn't see Joan or Richard after the show, but Dave and Tracy were both out on the stage talking with people until management threw us out. Can't wait to see "Richard and the Shindells" at Huntington in April!
