Morrison - I don't know if the trio's version is the > "original" or a remake... > It's Voni Morrison, who was Russell's occasional co-author and a back-up singer for Buck Owens. The pair also wrote "Act Naturally," which was recorded by Owens and, shortly thereafter, The Beatles. "Making Plans" was a hit for Porter Wagoner and Dolly Parton in 1980, although I believe the song was written in the 60s, and has been recorded by many country and bluegrass artists. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 4 Feb 2002 13:02:05 -0000 From: "Arthur Wood" Subject: Subject: [RS] new...or old...? Richard VARIOUS FAST FOLK: A COMMUNITY OF SINGERS & SONGWRITERS Late again as usual, and it soon proved to be way too onerous a task to check the track listings of all 100 albums that Fast Folk issued in their 16 year history [1982 - 1997]. As best I can tell, Richard's version of "The Courier" sources from # FF510 which was titled "Live at The Bottom Line 1991." This would be from one of the annual fundraiser shows that the FF clan used to play. In fact any of the aforementioned [approx. 100] individual CooP and Fast Folk recordings, the masters of which are now held by Smithsonian/Folkways, can be purchased from that source as special order CD "burns." Well almost, since Issues # 807 to # 809 seem to be missing from their listing. I've checked about 8 of the 36 cuts listed on the forethcoming release, and have been able to tag them to actual CooP/Fast Folk releases from 1982 through till circa 1996. My guess is, is that there's nothing new on the 2CD's, but at least some of the cuts that many of us have on vinyl, are now being upgraded to CD. There is, as I understand it, unreleased material in the FF archive that the Smithsonian received on 8th May 1999. History !!!! Living about three miles from it in the middle of PA, with a fiance who works in manhattan, lived in Jersey City, has a sister above pittsburgh and friends in the middle of Ohio, we're probably as familiar with I-80 as most anyone. It's awfully narrow for an interstate in some spots, for instance... and there's a ton of truck traffic, quite often whizzing by you no matter what speed you're going. (Unless it's up a hill they weren't familiar with, and you have a truck going 61mph trying to pass a line of trucks going 58mph as traffic backs up behind them.) My absolute favorite is to be stopped in construction behind one of those trucks hauling municipal waste out of jersey and ny to points west...on my motorcycle. Those tarps sure don't do too darn much other than keep big chunks from blowing out. Stinkerooni. I love truck driving songs, again, possibly exposing the hairy white unberbelly of my western pa heritage! Cheesy? Sure, I wouldn't argue that... but sometimes ya can really go for a slice of cheese, y'know? jpc in state college, pa, where it snowed from 7:30 to 8 and stopped as soon as we got to work ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 04 Feb 2002 07:35:24 -0600 From: Bill Wynn Subject: [RS] OKC Show 2/1/02 This was Richard's first time to play in Oklahoma, and he seemed pleasantly surprised that the crowd, albeit small, was so enthusiastic and familiar with his music. Ron, I'm not an attorney, not even a paralegal, but I do believe watching Perry Mason and The Practice lo these many years qualifies me to answer your question re: stalking or road trip. Seems to me that although it's a bit worrisome to schedule your vacation around Richard's tour dates, it's no worse than say, scheduling college classes around a favorite soap opera which had to be seen daily at 1pm*. Further, if you attend these concerts (and face it, we're all jealous) and manage to curb your enthusiasm by not attending sound check sessions pre-concert or following Richard out to the parking lot afterwards and offering to carry his guitar, you are probably just an Avid Fan and not a Stalker. Finally, I'm pretty sure being on this List offers you some diplomatic immunity or something. Better check with Professore Ron on that one. Have fun on your Road Trip!! Laura, (non Esq.) * You're probably wondering if I ever scheduled academic classes around shallow soap operas. Why, no. But I do know some people who did...they've become very successful professionals, many of them well known soap opera actors. ;-) ------------------------------ End of shindell-list-digest V4 #45 **********************************
