I live in Houston, and Richard will be playing at a local pub called the Mucky Duck on Tuesday. I will be attending. It's a very intimate venue. It seats about 60. I know up Northeast he usually plays places that seat 2 or 3 times that. However we get Richard maybe once a year down here (I saw him in November of 2000 last). I'll post a review after the show, and I just wanted to get myself known on this list. One question. What tracks appear on the bonus ep for Courier? I still haven't gotten Courier yet, and buying 2 copies is a little outside my budget right now. Everyone have a great day. Brendan Foley. ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 27 Jan 2002 19:40:24 From: "Adam Bailey" Subject: Re: [RS] 2 more days lets see if I can recall the bonus cd from memory (correct me if i falter): (critique in parenthesis) 1. Confession (not as good as the spring ep acoustic cut) 2. Abeulita (par excellance) 3. You Stay Here (better than on SNP) 4. Wisteria (by far the best version yet- melody intro fantastic) 5. Sonora's Death row (spot on- great) 6. Sonora's Death Row- Outtake (also known as 'theoldbrokenooooo...shoot...damn...[laughter] Adam _________________________________________________________________ Join the worlds largest e-mail service with MSN Hotmail. http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 27 Jan 2002 19:44:50 From: "Adam Bailey" Subject: [RS] St. Louis Concert on 2/2 Is anyone else going to this concert? I live in St. Louis so it will be a short trip. I know one person is coming from Kansas. Anyone else venturing from st. louis or farther to see him? I am also curious about the venue, Off Broadway. Anyone been there before? Can we sit really close? I'm hoping the doors open early so I can sit as close as i did for the Gorka concert here (I was about 3 feet away from JG). thanks, Adam _________________________________________________________________ MSN Photos is the easiest way to share and print your photos: http://photos.msn.com/support/worldwide.aspx ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 27 Jan 2002 14:08:38 -0600 From: "Kristen Myshrall" Subject: Re: [RS] St. Louis Concert on 2/2 I would be that Kansas person :) Does anyone know of any good places to eat in the local area before the show? As far as a place to eat you have to tell me what kind of food you are looking for. Really formal? Not so formal. Italian? Chinese? I can give you some good places if you can tell me what your food prefs are. gonna be a great concert, Adam >From: "Kristen Myshrall" >Reply-To: shindell-list@smoe.org >To: "Richard List" >Subject: Re: [RS] St. Louis Concert on 2/2 >Date: Sun, 27 Jan 2002 14:08:38 -0600 > >I would be that Kansas person :) Does anyone know of any good places to eat >in >the local area before the show? Anyway... :-) I never keep set lists (too engrossed in the music), but I do know the first and last songs are accurate - everything else is *not* in order of appearance: The Courier Shades of Gray Kenworth of My Dreams Next Best Western Beyond the Iron Gate Arrowhead Reunion Hill I Am Love Before You Go Lazy The Weather You Stay Here The Ballad of Mary Magdalene Are You Happy Now? Transit A Summer Wind, A Cotton Dress America (Simon and Garfunkel) encore: Wisteria If you read the above carefully, you're not seeing things! - a bit of explanation... A few songs into the evening, Richard surprised us by asking, "any requests?" - - you don't have to ask me twice and, as one person yelled Reunion Hill and another said Somewhere Near Paterson [sic], I said A Summer Wind, A Cotton Dress. Richard explained that what he was doing was actually demagoguery, in that he was just curious to see if any of the songs mentioned was the one he was going to do *anyway* - he said, "oh yes, validation!", and played what I asked... A little while later, he did it again - another Reunion Hill request, a Kenworth... and then *I* just decided to be silly and shout out The Weather. He did a double-take to see who was responsible for this southernmost perpetuation of a northern joke... and then immediately launched into it - Gene Frey, you should have been here, d*mmit (and he nailed it!). I recovered enough to later ask for Wisteria (again at his prompting), which he did for the encore - three for three! (a folkie hat trick? :-) He told some wonderful stories, one of which was how terrific English sounded in the States, after hearing the mostly-Spanish and some prim and proper Cambridge-accented English in Argentina - as he flew into New York last week, a cabbie began a stream of expletives in a Brooklyn accent... and Richard's eyes filled with tears of joy (hee hee!). He also spoke of the first (and last) sermon he ever gave, while he was in seminary - he not only lost the attention of the congregation somewhere along the way, but someone afterwards wanted to know if it was a rabbit in his wife's papoose carrier (rather than the baby she was cuddling... :-) Richard also explained that, after a bad experience with the motel chain, Next Best Western was supposed to be a revenge song, starting out "deliver me *from*..." but the song took over - now it appears he is advocating a return visit (not!). I know there are a bazillion more stories I'm forgetting, but I was immersed in "be here now" mode - I can tell you that Richard sounded great, looked thin, tan and relaxed... and I personally love the beard... :-) He'll be back here (West Palm Beach) March 22 for the tour with Joan/Dave/Tracy - I already have tickets for that evening, of course, but tonight's solo acoustic show was a rare treat ("this I do believe, I'll not see his like again, as I live and breathe"...). Susan http://www.heartsdesireconcerts.com P.S. Anyone see him in Lakeland Saturday night? - tell it, tell it...
