I'm new to the masterful work of Richard, in fact, to my shame I only heard of him in August 2001 so when I saw Blue divide on Gemm I thought I was able to help you all, sadly not. Thanks to Janet and Patrick for letting me know of my error, once again sorry. Having said that Gemm does have a Create a Want List Agent where you can put in your requirements and Gemm email you when the item is available. I've used this a couple of times now with great success for James Reyne and Dion Demucci. .................And to redeem myself a little bit. Richards Courier + the Sonora cd ep are the featured artist on Karen millers "The Miller Tells Her Tale " show this week on www.spydaradio.co.uk She is also playing tracks by Jim Bryson, Mike Plume Band, Gretchen Peters, Alison Krauss & Union Station, Nickel Creek, Dave Carter & Tracy Grammer and Suzanne Buirgy ( the one I was going on about a few days ago) among many others. Karen's show is up on the net now. Do take care and be happy, Alan Teather Who do you know who would like some extra income for Christmas and beyond? Have them email me for details. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 08 Jan 2002 08:18:16 -0500 From: jim colbert Subject: [RS] blue divide? It's worth having, but, shoot, it's no Courier! I just adore it. I recently made a mix tape for a friend who challenged me to work with the theme "Damnation/Salvation." So I opened the tape with NBW and closed it with Ascent, although it now occurs to me that Transit would have worked nicely too. Anyways, she is now obsessed with Richard. She bought all his CD's at one time and is currently trying to justify buying two Couriers! Another convert or addict, however you choose to see it! I never chimed in on my best of 2001 cause I have been either sick or crazy busy. But I can't not recognize my favorites - in this order - (saving Courier for next year): Kris Delmhorst - Five Stories. If you guys are not on this bandwagon yet you are missing out! She is an amazing writer full of heart and wit. Al Stewart - Down in the Cellar. Despite what you may think I haven't loved every Al album. This one however is clever and fun. Its all about wine and I don't even drink wine, but the lyrics are great and Lawrence Jubers over the top guitar picking is a delight as always. Brian Joseph - Were Gonna Laugh See Brian if you get the chance he is rapidly becoming one of my favorites and no, it doesn't hurt that he is goofy and adorable. Lucy K - Every Single Day Lucy continues to grow and her lyrics keep getting better. Several of the tracks on this album are approaching par with Richard and Dar. Something I have never felt about her before. So now that we have done albums. What were everyone's favorite songs this year? E P.S. I am betting I was the only one at the Barry Manilow concert I went to the other night (long story) who was comparing Barry's songs to Richard's songs! Barry btw, though not my cup of tea, is a great showman and hasn't lost his voice. P.P.S. Saw Barry at Hollywood's new Kodak Theatre (new home of the Oscars) its a beautiful venue with great accoustics. Very comfortable too. LA listers don't hesitate to see shows there. I think you will like it. ________________________________________________ Get your own "800" number Voicemail, fax, email, and a lot more http://www.ureach.com/reg/tag ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 08 Jan 2002 17:35:15 -0500 From: "Norman A. To anyone who thinks Gorka is past his prime check out this song. There was nothing else that even came close. Jack Hardy Without a doubt, he is one of the most influential songwriters in *my* lifetime, nuturing the likes of, oh . . . Richard Shindell, John Gorka, Shawn Colvin, et al. I first heard it when John played in East Lansing in May of 2000. <> If you want the penultimate Loudon Wainwright CD, check out "History". Most of his releases are great, but "History" remains his best as far as I'm concerned. "Career Moves", a live CD which was released not long after "History", is a wonderful record of what a Loudon concert is like, and the version of "April Fool's Day Morn" on this CD is nothing short of brilliant. I just saw Loudon on a PBS program the other night (can't recall the name of it at the moment) on which he performed (in-studio with a string quartet) "White Winos" from his new record. It is *such* a great song (and . . . it happened to be one of the songs that Loudon performed in the Sandra Bullock film, "28 Days" in which Loudon played a bit role). He is amazing and usually can play any song deep into his catalog. He is also hilarious in a sardonic way. Jack Hardy is amazing. I hope he recovers from his brothers death and keeps writing. Not everyone likes his voice or subject matter (he has a mythic, Irish, pagan bent). I have the Tribute to the White Goddess album (not sure on that title) where other people cover his songs (including Ms. Lucy K - although strangely her cut is really the weakest) and it is lush and beautiful. I am more or less addicted to this album. My songs of the year would be: Al Stewart - Toutes Les Etoiles (sp) - simply one of the most fun and exuberant songs ever (about the discovery of Champagne)- and -The Night that the Band Got the Wine- a nod to growing old and reclaiming your true spirit. RS- Love, before you go. Conveying such a wonderful sense of how we are all loved spiritually no matter how hard our journey may seem. Kris Delmhorst - Broken White Line - a broken hearted song as only Kris can do it, with humor, heartbreak and hope. Not only that but she confirms that it is a true story. Lucy K- Written on the Back of his Hand - hard to beat the line "one true words gonna beat a pack of lies" Brian Joseph - Tonite in Waleeka - a beautiful waltz about a time when the kids in Waleeka, KS weren't allowed to dance. Dar- The version of The Ocean on the live album. It's got teeth. I have to add a couple of disclaimers. Due to budgetary restrictions I do not own the new D&T (ok Ron?), Naked to the World or Loudon Wainwright III. I am sure I would have loved some of their tracks. E In balmy LA. It is strangely warm and humid here right now. ________________________________________________ Get your own "800" number Voicemail, fax, email, and a lot more http://www.ureach.com/reg/tag - ---- On Tue, 08 Jan 2002, Norman A.
