He did report on the looting in the streets and said that all stores were ordered shut - grocery stores and all. And actually, you could hear a lot of street noise (cars honking) in the background. He said something about the 'suspension of all constitutional rights'. Hard to imagine. In any event, he and his family are all ok. Waiting to see what happens next. I'm sure he appreciates your concern. toby ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 19 Dec 2001 21:12:35 -0800 (PST) From: Deb Woodell Subject: [RS] disappointment (chiming in late) I guess you can call this a disappointment: After buying Amy Ray's "Stag" a looong time ago, I have yet to feel inspired to listen; I never seem to be in a receptive mood. And I call myself an Amy fan! Deb ===== You can take the rock band away from the girl and think you've tamed her. But, she'll just pick up an acoustic, give you that innocent little girl grin, quietly laugh and say? "Nevah!" Check out Yahoo! Shopping and Yahoo! Auctions for all of your unique holiday gifts! I haven't listened to it yet, but have heard a lot of people say they don't like it a lot, especially the sound quality. Disappointment for me: train. bought it after people kept on raving about it. was underwhelmed. > I think the Gorka cd was better than his last few and I love > the women he > chose to harmonize. I really like the new Gorka CD, definitely more than the one before. It is true that he does not fall into my top ten most innovative songwriters, but that's okay. and him an Ani, man, that is so amazing! I used to think him and Lucy were not to be topped, but Ani and his voice are just perfect together. This CD might be my second favorite Gorka CD after Land of the Bottom Line. I love darkish songs. which brings me to the best CD of the year. Unarguably that's Jeffrey Foucault's Miles From The Lightning. Said it before, will say it again. Completely addictive, draw you in, intelligent music, unusual, thoughtful lyrics, the right dose of darkness-kind of an album. Followed closely by, the courier, I'm sure, but I don't know because no courier has brought the courier yet (okay, will stop with taht now... just wanted to share my pain once more :) ). For lack of the courier, the second prize goes to Don Conoscenti's Paradox of Grace. The rest is in no order: Lucy - every single day, Tom Russell - borderland, Christopher Williams - side streets (recorded live at Passim), Peter Mayer - Elements (check him out! I just "found" him a month ago when he opened for Ellis. Witty, intelligent lyrics and a very unique guitar technique. He has a lot of CDs out, his 5 song opening set blew us away, and I cannot believe I had never heard of him before. Oh, plus, he plays a Lowden, my kinda guitar, so naturally I had to like him :) ) Good also Ellis' Sweet Mistakes, though some tracks are skip-songs, but still, some really good new ones on it. Sting's All this time. I love that album. Also, and I'm ducking for cover already, Robbie Williams' Swing when you're winging. Take it for what it is, an album to entertain you, not one to make you think, and for that it's perfect. He seems right at home in that swinging music. Great entertainer. Not thought provoking, but great entertainer. Once you get over the boy-group-screaming-girls factor. I probably missed some... > and the continential drifters. I like it. Not my favorite. but I like it. I put it on if I want to sing along. Not if I want to listen. that doesn't have so much to do with live vs. studio for me, I really like live albums and there are a lot I put on to listen as opposed to sing along.
