["Brian Williamson" Subject: [RS] puccini and presents and numbers > << (Also for the most part, > a big honkin' gap in everything before the > mid sixties >> > > Jim, > > With all due respect, I included Puccini on my songwriter list; Well, I did say "for the most part..." Although I think of him more as a composer than a songwriter, but I'm not sure where the line is drawn in my own head (maybe if the voices would shut up in there I could tell!) but hey, I can buy it. But you see what I'm saying; there were sixty years of music in the last century before, say, people were listening to dylan, just as the first example to pop into my head. > > >Let me ask you all, are you giving away your second copies of COURIER for > >the holidays, or what? One for me; one for Cynthia, who wanted her own (and the fact that she works 4 hours away two days a week lets that make sense); one for a gift for one of my friends; and one as a gift for her boss and fast folk alumnus, Diana (http://artists2.iuma.com/IUMA/Bands/Feldman%2C_Diana/index-1.html). We may order another pair as presents too. I think we're keeping both sonora sessions. And if you figure out what those numbers mean, we should start unlocking the secret of the Rolling Rock beer bottle next. In fact, maybe I'll stop and get some samples tonight just in case we need them. Jim Colbert drinking tanzanian peaberry coffee. Now wine I'm a lost cause on, but good coffee is not wasted on me! I could sort of see me getting busted smuggling a bota of espresso into Godfrey Daniels! ..there ain't no money in poetry, that's what sets the poet free - -g.c. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 11 Dec 2001 08:29:57 -0500 From: jim colbert Subject: [RS] ...words, and words are all I have, to steal your hear away (heart awaaaaaay) > I'm finally getting around to responding to something > I saw last week, I think...that someone skips over > "Merritt Parkway 2 a.m."? Yep, that's me. It's not just a night owl thing, cause I've spent way too many nights on i-80 with richard singing to me... I have no issues with the tune itself, other than I simply feel cheated when I don't get lyrics. I know a lot of people like it as the seque into transit, and that's cool- obviously it was what the man intended. But heck, if I wanted to listen to just those little black notes on those horizontal lines with no words or stories, yeesh, I'd be listening to jazz or something... jim, ducking for cover (and whom, for the record, has no problems with jazz; i take it out from the library quite often.) ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 11 Dec 2001 08:38:04 -0500 From: jim colbert Subject: [RS] one more thought, merrit parkway and driving songs > I'm finally getting around to responding to something > I saw last week, I think...that someone skips over > "Merritt Parkway 2 a.m."? I am like that with Thompson's dimming of the day; years ago, driving in at the crack of dawn through the conemaugh gap twisting into johnstown from an all-night road trip to pittsburgh, in a white 77 trans am, holding the hand of my sleeping then-girlfriend who was curled up with her head on the console... that song started to play, just as the first pinkish crescent of sun peeked over the hilltop, sandwiched between the hills on both sides of us. It was a perfect moment. (Postscript: the car rusted badly and developed some serious valve problems; the girl got married; they straightened out most of the curves on haws pike; they gentrified much of the north side of pittsburgh... but things still turned out pretty much okay, y'know?) jpc ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 11 Dec 2001 09:26:59 -0500 From: Charlie Hunter Subject: [RS] What IS the frequency, Kenneth? Inquiring fans wish to know: >has Courier been distributed to radio stations yet, or will you hold off until closer to the release date? No, COURIER has not yet been distributed to radio, nor will it be until 2/6 or so. We don't want it getting airplay now... not until the copies are about to hit the stores (which is 2/12/02) >BTW, Charlie..... any significance to the numbers 2, 12, 10, 20, 26, 1, 1, 1? Hah! If direct letter transcription spells "bljtzaaa" (of course an anagram for "Talabazj"), try a _reverse_ transcrition, wich anagrams out to "yoga qzzz" which makes about the same amount of sense. Let me be the first to state, clearly and unequivocably, that there is NO SIGNIFICANCE to the numbers. None. Don't spend any time looking for significance or hidden messages. - - The Enigmatic Mr. Hunter ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 11 Dec 2001 09:30:35 -0500 From: "Brian Williamson" Subject: Re: [RS] What IS the frequency, Kenneth?
