Hey, no fair! I live in the same darn state and I didn't get it today! Must be going from a 1 person PO to a 3 person PO. Greg PS: Jim Colbert, the OUTLAWS? I saw them so many times I lost count. I thought Huey Thomasson was a great guitar player. Go out ASAP and buy yourself a bottle of Sonoma Zinfandel (red, not white!), Napa Cabernet, or maybe a nice Sauvignon Blanc from the Dry Creek Valley. You'll be awfully glad you did. We sort of loosely defined it as since the mid-50s, when rock forced its way into pop culture. I'm curious about what y'all think. We came up with a list but I won't throw it out there yet, except to say Lennon and McCartney were pretty much considered untouchable at the top. - -lee ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 05 Dec 2001 23:07:04 -0500 From: Lisa Davis & family Subject: Re: [RS] For those who just can't wait... The question is, is it us, that we listen to these songs word by word? (Like "this" in Tune for Nowhere as in "rainbow over all of this" -- or "we wait at the gate for an echo") Or, is it Richard and the infinite care he seems to take with each word, at least when he's "on"? Which leads me back to a topic I'm discussing with another friend, the lofty theme of "what is art" and in this case, is song-writing art, or craft? or, is it craft for some, but art when it's Richard? My stab at defining "art" was when it is actually seeking to describe the indescribable, show the invisible, so that the work, the form, is inadequate to capture the subject, and instead the work is a signpost pointing the viewer/listener where to go. The work is the beginning and not the conclusion. It works for Richard anyway! lisa davis PS. I still prefer "almighty enemy"; and what is the significance of THAT change? ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 5 Dec 2001 23:31:49 -0500 From: patrick t power Subject: Re: [RS] The 10 greatest songwriters <> With the exception of Dylan, not in any particular order . . .
