(is anyone in the Balto area even *on* this list?) if so, might anyone be kind enough to give me a ride? I'll pay gas $ if you want me to. aargh, I hate to beg, but I can't get *into* either the Ramshead or Tin Angel (Philly) shows - damn 21+ venues - and the two SF Bay Area shows are two weeks before I get there (for the second straight year - and I missed the Sykesville, MD show by a week in August) ... WOW. There are definitely enough dates in and around Philly, NJ, and NYC to keep this girl happy. :-) Now, as for perfect albums: Richard Shindell: Sparrow's Point Dave and Tracy: Tanglewood Tree Duncan Sheik: Phantom Moon Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds: Henry's Dream Peter Mulvey: Deep Blue The Tragically Hip: Trouble at the Henhouse Paula Cole: This Fire (don't laugh! that album, together with "Harbinger," made my middle teen-hood just barely bearable as opposed to wholly unlivable) Yeah, I think that's pretty much it! There may be some others I'm neglecting, but I think that's more or less The List, as far as I'm concerned. Peace, V Michaela O'Brien wrote: >Ok folks, here you have it. I don't really like that so much, however. It sounds as though visitors ought to see their doctors as soon as they get back home, or something.. It also gave rise to a public relations debacle that I'm sure I've mentioned on-list before, so horrified was I. The Independence Day campaign of about two years ago sported posters that read: "Philadelphia: The Place That Loves You Back. And Fourth." ugggggggggh. - --Vanessa Rongrittz@aol.com wrote: >>>4/25 venue tba, Philadelphia, PA << >>> > >Kate Rusby is gonna be at Makor on 4/25, so let's make that a Richard/Kate co-bill instead of some Philly venue tba. > >Brotherly Love, my ass. ;-) > >RG ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 28 Nov 2001 16:08:55 -0500 From: Elwestrand Subject: Re: Re: [RS] "perfect?" So many amazing songs in one place. "This is not the house that pain built" and "You're aging well" are certainly anthems of mine and several of the others touch me on a very deep level. A couple of my nominees have already been listed but I'll add Julie Miller - Broken Things and David Wilcox - How Did You Find Me Here. I honestly think Sparrows Point is the closest thing to perfection that I have heard. The songs are mind-bogglingly good and the production is spare and intimate, just the way I like it. I enjoy floating along from one magnificent song to the next....... until The Kenworth Of My Dreams jolts me out of my reverie like a 3 a.m. fire alarm. It's not that I don't like the song so much as it just doesn't fit with the rest of the album. That honky tonk pedal steel sticks out from the rest of the album like a bagpipe solo in the middle of Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata, and it really kills the groove of the album for me. I usually just end up skipping over the track. Is it just me or does anyone else feel the same way? Well, Paul, I don't feel the same way, but you certainly made me almost fall out of my chair with that one. Very funny. :-) I actually love Kenworth and I've always thought of it as akin to The Courier, because I see them as both being about the life of a folksinger, in their own ways. So for me, it fits in rather neatly. Phueber@aol.com wrote: >I have yet to hear the perfect album, although many come close for me.
