Truth be told, I was thinking myself that By Now was very Hitchcockian (?) in its innuendos and nuances, being scarier without showing The Knife Cutting. He (Hitchcock) was such a master of this subtlety. I remember (long term memory is better than short) in Film 101 at Drew University ('80), Professor Skaggs telling us about how Hitchcock would show someone looking at something in horror without cutting to the actual subject of horror...By Now would be great on any soundtrack for Hitchcock, David Lynch, or the Coen Brothers films. When will they make a video for VH1? Think I'll stick to baths for a while... And anyway, if Mary Ann had just taken FolkTrain rather than hitchiking, she wouldn't be in such a predicament. Begging your indulgence, therefore, I remain, - - Charlie THIS YEAR, TAKE THE TRAIN! Ride FolkTrain to the Folk Alliance Conference in Jacksonville, Florida February 20-24, 2002! Join Alan Rowoth (folk music internet guru), Charlie Hunter (folk music manager), Sarah Ovenden (writing facilitator) pickers, players, fans and other kindred spirits for an unforgettable trip through the American landscape by safe, sure, all-weather streamliner to sunny Florida! Last year, over 65 people rode FolkTrain from Montreal and Toronto to Vancouver and return on the trip of a lifetime, and we9ve already started taking reservations for February! There are two routes to choose from - departing from the Northeast or West Coast. Economical (more or less) coach or luxurious (depending on your budget) sleeping car service. Go one way or round trip. Trains are handicapped accessible, with discounts for seniors, students AAA or NARP (National Association of Railroad Passengers) members. Call or email Charlie Hunter (who likes nothing better than to talk about train trips) to go over your travel plans and figure out what works for you! NY 10:30 am Mon 2/25 connecting trains back to Boston, etc. EARLY BIRD PRICE (FROM NY/PHILLY) Round-trip Coach (includes FolkTrain fee): $275.00 TOTAL From Boston: $317.00 From DC: $253.00 Other cities upon request (Montreal, Toronto, Chicago, and anywhere inbetween). One-way fares upon request. Coach seats are wide, reclining and about the same size as a first-class seat on an airliner. You might want to bring a blanket as cars can get chilly at night. You can bring your own food (which you consume at your seat), or you can purchase full meals in the dining car (linen tablecloths, etc) or sandwiches, snacks and beverages in the lounge car. OPTIONAL: Sleeping Cars operate NYC-Philly-DC to Florida - You get bed, bedding, dinner, breakfast, access to shower, towels, etc. On the Florida run, sleeper prices are high for so short a trip (we take no markup on the prices shown). Sleepers are fun, though, so if your budget can take it, we suggest you consider a sleeper in at least one direction. "Standard Room" - Standard rooms contain two seats during day, commode, sink, upper and lower windows. At night, two beds fold down from ceiling and wall and take up the entire room. We do not lie: Space is at a premium (see dimensions below). Sleeper Options: a) You are traveling alone, we assign you a same-sex roommate: $157.50 per person each way from NY or Philly; $133 from DC. b) There are two of you, sharing a room. $315 for two each way from NY or Philly; $267 from DC. c) You are travelling alone and want a room to yourself: $315 each way from NY or Philly; $267 from DC. d) Deluxe room - these offer more space than "Standard Rooms." Two beds; each room has its own enclosed bathroom and shower. $538 for two each way from NY or Philly; $502 from DC. AIR/RAIL OPTION: Rail one-way; plane return: You can work out details with our travel agent, but, depending on airline, price from NYC will be in the neighborhood of $347 (most airlines), or, if you fly AirTran, $255.00 SLEEPER ROOM DIMENSIONS (EASTERN TRAINS): "Standard Room" is 3'6" wide x 6'8" long but with plenty of headroom; bed sizes are 2'4" x 6'6" lower; 2'4"x6'2" upper. You should plan on checking as much of your baggage as you possibly can - there is hardly any storage space. You can manage to fit a couple of guitars and a carry-on in with you, but it won't be what you'd call _commodious_. "Deluxe Room" is 6'8" wide by 7'1" long, plenty of headroom. Bed sizes: 3'4" x 6'3" lower and 2'4" x 6'2" upper. Private bathroom w/shower; sofa and chair during day ; two windows, a bit of storage area. ======== RANSCONTINENTAL (WEST COAST) FOLK TRAIN.
