I am ordering tickets now since I wanted to see Richard Thompson too and that is sold out. I hope RS has his band there. They were so good when I saw them in Hightstown NJ a few weeks ago with Amy Rigby. I went to his website (www.jeffreyfoucault.com) and listened to the clips there. Immediately bought the CD and haven't taken it out of my CD player since I got it in the mail. This guy is a great songwriter and singer - reminds me of a rougher, more stripped down version of Lyle Lovett. I would have to put this right up there with Eric Taylor's Scuffletown as my CD of the year, at least until Richard's live one comes out. Paul PS I'm looking for a good introductory CD into Garnet Rogers' music. I've been to the Folkweb site and listened to the clips but they didn't give me a real good feel for the individual CD's. I'd gladly take any suggestions off-list. Thanks! ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 14 Oct 2001 11:50:50 -0400 From: "Gene Frey" Subject: [RS] IMAC in April Hey you guys, >>Okay, where in Huntington Long Island is he going to be and where did you find this out? I wonder if it's the IMAC again, he was great there last May! << Yes, it is IMAC. Tickets are on sale already. If you are not familiar with IMAC, it is a theater on one of the main streets in Huntington, Long Island. That part of town has a number of good places to eat or get a drink before or after the show. The show is on a Friday and starts at 9 PM. It is reserved seating, so even if you're coming from far away there should be plenty of time to get into town, enjoy dinner, and see the show without worrying about getting to the front of the line to get a good seat. There is municipal parking in town, and a Long Island Railroad station about two or three miles down the road. As we offered last time Richard was in Huntington, we'd be happy to pick up anyone (up to three people - it's not that big a car!) wishing to make the trek by train. Hope to see some of you at the Cabin next Sunday. Heh... funny you should make that comparison because Peter Mulvey's description of Jeff is "Lyle Lovett with more dirt on his boots." And I whole-heartedly agree with both of you. Although Young/Hunter has not officially taken him on as a client, I'm helping and advising Jeff a bit, and am happy to do whatever I can to get this music out there because his CD, Miles from the Lightning, is the most impressive debut I've heard in the past few years (probably since Lori McKenna's first CD). Even more mind-blowing is the fact that Jeff is only 25, and many of the songs on the album were written 3-4 years ago. His potential is staggering. Said Bill Morrissey, after Jeff opened for him last month: "Jeffrey Foucault is a rock solid, soulful singer... He's worth all the attention and accolades he's going to get." Couldn't have said it better myself. At the moment, Jeff's is in the midst of switching his online CD retailer and he himself, is actually holed up on a ranch in Wyoming for a few weeks. If you'd like to buy a copy of his CD, though, contact me and I'll tell you how. I've been a single mom with 2 young kids these past 3 days (husband travelling)and although Sparrows Point has been in the car's cd player since I picked it up Thursday, I can't say that I've had a chance to listen to more than Raffi and Sugar Beats tapes. Although...my girls are singing along to chorus of Cut 1, that's right, "Are You Happy Now?" with adorable gusto and innocence (unaware of song's underlying bitterness and irony). I've gotta say it's very cute. Please let me have a day or two more to study this album and debrief accordingly. I can already tell this is a deep one. Thank you. I don't hear bitter, I heard longing, which spoke so perfectly to my condition when I heard it lo these 9 years ago. "For so long has this room been so hollow / we wait at the gate for an echo" seemed to be classic shindell, "dense" writing as he says, volumes in a few words. I suppose the theme is not unlike Next Best Western, which is a lot more "accessible" and equally powerful, but Ilove the poetry of Fleurs-de-lys. When you add up Next Best Western, Fleur-de-Lys, Ascent, Somewhere Near Paterson -- well, although i realize it is irrelevant to speculate on the personal experience of the songwriter, I really think it would be absurd not to draw a few conclusions. Non autobiographical indeed. e, I know you are or have been on the Al Stewart list and sometime I'd like to hear your comparative remarks about the way Al and richard approach history. Oddly enough, post-September 11th I've felt more inclined to listen to Al than Richard, which is out of step with the last9years! lisa ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 15 Oct 2001 00:11:06 -0400 From: "Norman A. What is it about Al Stewart's work that has attracted you since then? I think I've been listening less to Richard and more to Dar and Jackson Browne (LATE FOR THE SKY). But I'm not sure whether my listening less to Richard is directly related to the aftermath.
