(Although you guys don't know my own work, the astute guitar players among the bunch are now snickering as they see the simplicity of the stuff I did. But hey, what the hell, I thought it offered a little more depth than the Buffet and Van Morrisson songs they two guys were playing.) But here's the cool part. This morning I was offered the chance to open for David Olney in January... I don't think I will, but it just sort of blows me away to think about it... They are all incredible in their own different ways. All simply scrumptious. Oh, wait a minute...this the Shindell list...let's take this debate over to the D&T list. : ) I myself like the black tshirt idea, because they go with everything, they're very flattering to all figures and it's a look even I could pull off : ) I think *carrying* tire irons could be fun, but might make us look really intimidating. Unless someone has a flat, of course. I am afraid, however, that I may have to turn my blazer badge and secret decoder ring back to Ron G; I have missed so many local-ish opportunities to see Richard this year...heck, I even saw Ron play more than I saw Richard...and yet, I have gone and purchased tickets for Richard and D&T and ...um, what was her name again??? Happy 40th (welcome to our ranks)and I think it's great that you had the cojones to get up on that stage at open mic night and sing. One day, we may be writing e mails to the jimc-list! I'd have the nerve to get up on a karoake stage, maybe, after at least 3 light beers. Bravo, Laura ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 02 Oct 2001 19:23:17 -0400 From: "Norman A. As I may have mentioned before, I was #35 of 35 performers on Saturday. With this number, we could only do one song apiece (sort of like a giant open mic). I had several songs in my mind, figuring I would choose based on what the last 2 or 3 performers did. I was about 99% sure I was going to do an original song called "Upper-Middle Class Blues" As I reached for the opening chord, I changed my mind, and instead played the old Scottish ballad "Wild Mountain Thyme." Evidently, it was the right choice, and I was rewarded with every person in the audience (100+ folk singers) singing along. It sounded like a 500-choir. I've played on and off for the last 22 years, and I have never had a performance..or ANY experience.. quite like it! So, Jim, any plans for a Midwest tour? Congrats on playing out, and I hope you keep it up! Kevin Edward Rose "Urban folk ... I can see the grin in your words. Congratulations - you deserve it. To Vanessa, I find it vaguely off-putting that you cruelly slam my Mandy Patinkin references, but when I agree with you on the Russell Crowe reference, I am then cited as some sort of expert. I feel so used. (Yuk, in lieu of smiley face icon) To Laura, you're simply going to have to give up non-esssentials like food, soap, fuel, and cable TV and start buying CDs and concert tickets. We'll help you along for a while, but eventually we're going to expect some real input. Maybe homework would help. By Friday - 200 words on the significance of the name 'Mary Ann' in 'By Now.'
