I thought the band was too rock-n-roll for Richard's music. In contrast, I really enjoyed seeing him with the band at the Outpost in February. I thought the violin, keyboards, and various stringed instruments (Greg Andersen) complemented Richard's voice and guitar wizardry extremely well, whereas the band this time just overwhelmed him. (Although I do think they did a great job on "America.") My husband and I brought a friend who was seeing Richard for the first time. It wasn't exactly the best show to introduce someone new to Richard. It was OK for me as a long time fan, but my friend could not make out most of the lyrics and even I couldn't make out a lot of them on "Fishing" and I know them! (Of course I'm loaning her Richard CDs now...). I also thought it was ironic that the one song he did alone, and the song that my friend could best hear the words, was the lyrically obscure Dar song "Calling the Moon." But at least you could appreciate his voice and guitar playing on that song. But I'm glad to hear that Richard had a good time. Sue K P.S. RonG, I did see you in the crowd at one point and was going to say hello, but then we bumped into some people we knew... ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 1 Oct 2001 10:42:08 EDT From: LBECKLAW@aol.com Subject: [RS] Re: concert tour In a message dated 9/27/2001 11:01:52 PM Eastern Daylight Time, owner-shindell-list-digest@smoe.org writes: << And, they have tickets on sale already for the 2/23/02 show. Having jumped on the Shindell-wagon later (admittedly through Cry Cry Cry, so sue me), I have to say my favorite CD seems to be seasonal and emphemeral, dictated by my mood of the moment. Right now it's definitely SNP, but next week it could all change. And BTW, Cry Cry Cry is one of my desert island disks and will always be. That's my story, and I'm sticking to it. New to the wagon, and proud of it, Laura P.S. To whom does the cryptic allusion to a Dylan contemporary refer? Lucy K? What does this mean? Ten Year Night is another one of my desert island disks, no doubt about it!! ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 01 Oct 2001 10:57:18 EDT From: Rongrittz@aol.com Subject: [RS] Re: Sparrows Point >> To whom does the cryptic allusion to a Dylan contemporary refer? Suffice it to say that Katie, Katrin and a few others know of whom I speak. Or rather, don't speak. Wait, let me give it a try . . . Joa . . . Jo . . . Joan . . . Joan B . . . nah, can't do it. Like NYC or New >>Haven or (God forbid) Bridgeport? Just wondering, wishing and hoping... >><< For the best tour information on the web, go to: www.musi-cal.com It contains tour information for all of our favorites, plus quick links to the most requested artists. You can sort by date, place, and artist. Very cool. In any case, the Richard/Dave & Tracy/Joan Baez (sorry, Ron) tour will be at Town Hall in NYC, New Haven, New London, and many other spots throughout the eastern US. On Saturday Richard told us that the set-up will probably be as we have heard earlier - he will do 40 minutes, and D&T will serve as Joan's band, and will probably do some of their own numbers as well. He did not know if he would join them on stage. I can't imagine that Joan would not have him out there for a song or two. Say what you will, her support of up and coming artists has been very strong, and I am confident that she would enjoy singing and playing with Richard as well as D&T. As far as I can tell, Town Hall is not on sale yet, and I don't know about any of the others. Gene F.
