Not only is "Sparrow's Point" by and large most Listers favoriteRS record, it does indeed have one of the GREATEST odes to a newborn child, namely , "Castaway" which draws tears to my eyes almost every time I hear it. And I've heard it hundreds of times, though Richard rarely performs it in concert. So I would follow Lisa's advice and run out, post haste, and secure a copy of "Sparrow's Point" today. Then, and only then, can you truly be considered an offical Shindell Lister. And be one of us. ;-P RonD (Seargent-At-Arms, The Shindell List) ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 26 Sep 2001 08:08:17 -0500 From: "Kristen Myshrall" Subject: [RS] Lullaby album OH my god..that is the sweetest thing :) Why is it that all the good ones are already married??? Blah....Here is DEFINATELY another vote for a lullaby album-he already helps put me to sleep at night (along with Lucy) that would make things so much easier! >>>>>>>>>>>> I think a lullaby or children's CD from Richard is a great idea. On this subject, Richard told me a story once where he went to Parent/Teacher day at his daughter's school and while there, he brought his guitar and sang a song to the class. His daughter got extremely upset and began to cry, beseeching her father to stop. Apparently, this was a song Richard often sang to her alone at night and she didn't like the idea of sharing her father and his song with anyone else. It was THEIR song apparently. How cute is that? >>>>>>>>>>>>>> KristenGet more from the Web. Funny how kids can get so proprietary. My daughter's very first word was "Mine!" (second word: "No!" am I in trouble or what?) Re: Castaway, Okay, okay, I'll buy this album (do we still say album?)straight away. Still feeling residual sheepishness (baaa) for not knowing an RS song (and admitting it here, no less!) Speaking of songs, at the risk of embarrassing myself yet again with you VSF's, I heard a very beautiful Jackson Browne song on the radio this a.m. with lyrics about the world going round and round, and beginning the dance...is this "For a Dancer"? I found it stirring and quite relevant to these days. I am reading it for my book group, and 2/3 through decided that it is one of the best American Novels since Bonfire of the Vanities, IMHO. It alternates between being disturbing and LOL amusing--but the erratic ride is made bearable by very, very good writing. I am a bit disappointed to find that this is an Oprah pick--maybe I don't want this one to become a mainstream bestseller and a feature film starring Ben Affleck... And btw, I don't think this is RS-irrelevant because 1. the vibe of the book reminds me of RS' prose; 2. it's culture, ain't it? ; 3. if they do make a movie out of it, RS songs would make a terrific soundtrack--Transit, Are You Happy Now, Wisteria, and Confession, to name a few. From my favorite album ever, "Late for the Sky." In the end there is one dance you'll do alone . . . This is a great venue! I've been going ever since I was in the US (In fact, their Cheryl Wheeler and Greg Greenway show was my first date with my wife!). They have a great reputation amongst performers for making great meals for them, so we know that Richard won't be wasting away over here! :) RonG should be able to confirm what a good venue this is - I've met him there several times now. Richard has played there quite a few times too. The venue is going through a bit of a tough time at the moment, so I'm sure they would appreciate your coming out to see the show. One great feature of their website is that you can pay using your credit card via Paypal, so it's not too late to get your tickets in advance! Another thing - don't miss their collection of photos of past performers, many doing goofy things backstage! I have always loved that one. A quick search of the web found that Dave Gilmour sometimes does the song in concert. How sweet. Anyone else remember the song? I do hope you come by and say hi. I'm not sure what I will be doing but I'm sure I'll be doing something! The last time that Richard came through I was the one who got to cook for him....*sigh*...he's so dreamy! But I digress. That is so cool that you had your first date with your wife there. My first date with my husband was at the Susan Werner/Susan Piper show in March of 1998. It is true, we are going through a rough time right now. We are totally volunteer and totally non-profit so making ends meet, getting people to come to shows and competeing with NYC and Philly is tough but it's worth it. So any of you out there -- come on by and say hi. I have short, reddish hair and will, likely be in some sort of overall outfit. Hope to see you there!
