Well, I don't know if RS ever drives a green car (maybe a rental?), but I can guarantee he was in Argentina this morning. Sorry Vanessa. toby In a message dated 9/11/2001 2:56:13 AM Eastern Daylight Time, vcwills@Princeton.EDU writes: << OK--I definitely had a weird experience this morning, and I need help unraveling the mystery. I was in a blue Eddie Bauer Ford Explorer with two friends--we were headed to the DMV near Princeton, NJ. The driver made a wrong turn, and tried to pull into a driveway that was on the other side of the road, so our car was angled perpendicular to oncoming traffic on both sides, and no one would let the driver pull into the driveway and complete the maneuver. Anyways, the point is, someone finally did let her move through. This gentleman was driving a small green car and looked uncannily like--you guessed it--Richard Shindell. He was about three yards away, and he really looked just like Richard, down to his easy and slightly bemused smile. The incident occured near Route 1, at about 9am this (Monday) morning. And no matter how you look at it, it's weird. Either there's some guy out there driving a small green car and looking scarily like Richard, or Richard did just happen to be along that road, or lack of sleep is playing mean, mean tricks on me. So here's where you guys come in. Is he in Argentina right now, or the States? Has he ever been known to drive a green car? Might he have been driving around Jersey early in the morn? This mystery vexes me. I am terribly vexed. I eagerly await your replies. I love this one). Jonatha Brooke--Linger Mark Knopfler: Sailing to Philadelphia The Word And o' course, I think Lucy K's new one comes out today! Hope these help--I'm not familiar with most of the regulars mentioned here, but these are among my favorites lately. Welcome other listers' feedback on these too! SCUFFLETOWN is on a par with Townes Van Zandt's "Delta Momma Blues," and "High Low and In Between" which are, to me, two of my ten Desert Island Discs. Eric Taylor is tall, gaunt and writes haunted music. Nanci Griffith says, "I consider Eric Taylor the William Faulkner of songwriting in our current time." I consider Tom Russell somewhat contrived. I consider Eric Taylor an overwhelming talent. I urge all Richard-listers to take a chance and pick up SCUFFLETOWN. It's on Eminent Records (www.eminentrecords.com) - - Charlie (in his non-manager capacity) ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 11 Sep 2001 14:37:28 +0200 (MEST) From: Katrin.Uhl@t-online.de (Katrin Uhl) Subject: Re: [RS] Recommendation - Eric Taylor Charlie of Young/Hunter schrieb: > Hands down, the best record I've heard this year is Eric > Taylor's > SCUFFLETOWN. He's right up there in my current addiction-phase with Tom Russell (and it's all the fault of a fellow RS-lister who shall remain nameless, but who took me to a whole bunch of great shows this summer! :-) ) And most amazing: he actually plays in Germany (of course during the one week this fall where I'm not in Germany, but oh well...) so, yes, everybody needs more Eric Taylor in their lives. best, Katrin ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 11 Sep 2001 09:00:46 -0400 From: "Greg Z" Subject: [RS] Re: other artists Food fight!!! For cd's, a couple of guys from Maine are worthy of purchasing. Harvey Reid is excellent, albeit he may be more of a guitarist than a vocalist (he also does Lakes of Ponchartrain); and the venerable Bill Staines. Bill is playing Stone Soup Coffeehouse in Pawtucket, RI on 9/22. But I'll be in NH that night seeing some guy named Richard. Ooh, ooh (Gunther Toody)! I just got hit with a chicken nugget. Amy is still coming to Indianapolis and will be staying with us tonight. We all are in a state of shock over today's devastating terrorist attacks on Washington and New York. Amy, Meghan and I will all be at home today dealing with today's events together. We understand that several of you will be unable to join us, as you are needed with your families; however, we would like to invite you all over for food, conversation, and potentially music. Amy has said that she is more than willing to play for us. However, the night will be an open sort of forum for discussion and reflection, with the aim of helping us all process and deal with today's disheartening events. We hope that you, your families, and friends are safe. Please know that you are in our thoughts and prayers.
