But I think the distinction of "best disaster song" has to go to "Captain Torres," a song about sailors who know their ship is sinking and have no hope of surviving but are able to make one final phone call to their families. I'd rate "Cold Missouri Waters" as the second best disaster song, and the third would have to be "Hillcrest Mine," a song about a mine explosion in which many miners lost their lives. It's no surprise, of course, that the three best disaster songs were all written by James Keelaghan. He's certainly got the market share on those :-) Just as Richard has his trucking trilogy, James has this fantastic disaster trilogy. I can't wait to see Richard this Sunday at Passim. Someone told me that James was opening for him but I can't seem to find any such listing. I've seen them play together one other time at Passim and that show was amazing. I also can't wait to see Dar on Friday -- now if I could just get them to play here in town on the SAME night! :-) Well, that's just my $0.02. > I'd love to see him play it more. It also makes me cry and or shudder every time especially live when James adds Cyreno's farewell to the end. I have four of JK's albums and I think he is amazing. I think some people on this list think its disloyal or something to like James and Richard. I like both versions of CMW. James has many amazing songs. I am quite partial to his lovesongs personally. And really his song "Kiri's Piano" about the pride of a Japanese woman during the internment process is perhaps the most amazing disaster song of all. Cause nature is one thing, but a disaster made of bigotry and ignorance is really the worst thing that can happen isn't it? And finding your own way to stand proud in the face of it is miraculous.
