I still think a live CD needs a spoken intro, at the very least to differentiate it from a standard studio CD. I mean, we're talking about a few seconds here...what possible harm could it do in reducing the listenability factor? If anything, it enhances it. Seems to me to be a non-issue. I wonder...what would Richard do? FYI: Mr. Shindell will be playing a free concert on the lawn at Heckscher Park in Huntington Village next Thursday evening, August 16th on the4 Harry Chapin Rainbow stage. Bring chairs, a blanket, bottle of wine, some snacks and have a picnic courtesy of the Arts Council of Huntington. Can't do better than that. Anyone needing transportation from the Huntington train station, I'll be glad to lend a hand. Just contact me off-list. I'm not terribly enamored with the choice of intro we were given for Richard's cd, but that's not open for debate, so it won't bother me if we are without one. My fave all-time intro on a live cd is from Melissa Ferrick's "+1": "Put your hands together, for God's sake, it's Melissa Ferrick!" The cd wouldn't be the same without that! Deb (whose fave intro was the one Lucy K. got when she appeared at Collingswood, NJ, in Sept. 1999...she was on stage with no one to introduce her, so someone got up in the front row, turned to the people and said "Ladies and gentlemen, Lucy Kaplansky"...and that someone was me!) ===== You can take the rock band away from the girl and think you've tamed her. But, she'll just pick up an acoustic, give you that innocent little girl grin, quietly laugh and say? "Nevah!" Make international calls for as low as $.04/minute with Yahoo! Putting it as track zero means you have to actively scan for it - who's going to do that?! Putting it separate from the track is better for radio play. Wills" Subject: [RS] That train has sailed... The LIRR leaves from Penn Station and has a stop in Huntington. It takes just a little over an hour to make the trip. The schedule is online at: http://www.mta.nyc.ny.us/lirr/html/ttn/huntingt.htm , and it looks like the trains leave at times that are pretty conducive to attending this show. It is a Zone 9 trip, so during Peak hours (when you'll probably be taking the train to the concert) a one-way ticket is 8.50. Coming back it will be off-peak, and cost 5.75. Why do I know this? Because I have been considering making the trip from Philly. I haven't been to one of Richard's shows since April and I kind of want to see the man play! Plus, the fact that it's free means I can be more flexible with transportation costs... The only question is whether SEPTA (our public transportation in Philly) links up with NJTransit and Metrotransit in such a way as will result in my actually getting home before 7am the next morning.
