(Not sure which I heard first; I know they were the first two rs songs I ever heard.) Nothing against AYHN, it's certainly very accessible and a nice enough song but if that had been the only song he did on fast folk I likely would not be here; I later subscribed to ff for a year and bought some back issues and it was really SP, Courier, Memory of You that made me pick up the first disc when it came out. Interestingly, I wasn't thoroughly enamored of sparrows point when I first bought it; I preferred the starker, less polished versions of the songs as I had heard them on the couple ff discs I bought. Now, over the years this has become inconcievable to me, but it really was true- I almost traded it back in at the CD store a few times but thankfully never did. I also see in the Weekender section of the paper Little Feat is playing here at the local bar/club next week. Kind of makes me want to go and yell "Play that richard shindell song, willin'!" jpc in sc pa btw, just as an aside- any of you guys/gals ever hear of the acoustic band Cartoon based out of State College in the early 80's? ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 27 Jul 2001 09:10:21 EDT From: Pfleary@aol.com Subject: [RS] folkies come alive Carol (et al), I had suggested "Dar Comes Alive" for her live album title, particularily after hearing the live cut of "As Cool As I Am" online! Alas, as we all know this name was not chosen. I also love the title Live at Budokan, but I do believe that one actually has to go to Japan and record at that venue to use the name. ;-) Norman (in reference to Peter Frampton's career) wrote: . >>>One problem. We'll never hear from him again. ;-)<<<< Hey, Peter Frampton plays Northern California every year. Granted, it's such hot spots as the Marin County Civic Center (I beleive he opened for the Riverdance troupe!) and Konocti Harbor Resort and Spa in Clear Lake, where all the old legends of 70's Rock play. The best part of him playing in my area is seeing the publicity photos. He now has extremely short hair now and wears glasses. I bet he's not often recognized in public, except for the occasional person asking "hey, aren't you Sting?" Greg wrote: >>>it's alive and well and still being edited by Paul Williams<<< THE Paul Williams? Wow! I remember when he guest starred on The Odd Couple. Or was it the Partridge Family? It was probably both, as well as probably an appearance or two on The Sonny and Cher Show! Okay, I'm off to Falcon Ridge this morning after a restful night at my big sister's house outside Albany, preceeded by a not so restful day travelling from the West Coast. I HATE O'HARE! Richard would definitely have to record "Fernando" -- doncha think???? .....CaroL (who can see Ron G cringing all the way down here in Florida....) "I never apologize. Dave & Tracy did "Crimson & Clover" last night at Makor, so I guess anything's possible. RG ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 27 Jul 2001 22:49:31 -0400 From: "Norman A. (no pun intended). I had heard Joan's version of it shortly before seeing Richard open for Dar & was impressed with the song, even with the parts I couldn't understand what she was singing. Then seeing Richard do it live convinced me (I think he closed his set with that song). During that same show, Dar covered Mary M.-- another song that blew me away. It took me some time to get into the SP songs. Norman ------------------------------ End of shindell-list-digest V3 #238 ***********************************
