He is vacationing in the Adirondacks just across Lake Champlain, hence the unusual single date with nothing for 6 weeks behind or four ahead, with the canceling of the Stanhope date. Richard was in very good humour, and found comments about the situation (I feel like Bob Hope entertaining the troops on a USO gig [approximately]), matched notes to the ferry horn, and matched rhythms to its engine. But for most of the performance, the ferry drifted to the background sounds of its generator only. Richard asked for and performed requests. Generally a very loose and spirited show. - -set 1 beyond the iron gate next best western friend of the devil (inspired by a Grateful Dead cover band playing on shore while we waited to board and depart) reunion hill arrowhead courier are you happy now fourth of july, asbury park (sandy) - -set 2 cold missouri waters ( bungled; and so acknowledged by Richard) fishing wisteria may confession abuelita transit - -encore sing me back home This had been announced as a dinner / dance, so I did not know what to expect (Richard in a tux, me in jeans?), but of course it proved to be a regular concert in a unique setting, with an excellent buffet and enthusiastic audience; adequate compensation for the canceled September date. I had just graduated from high school when Harry died, so I didn't have a sense of much of anything except myself. But as I've looked back, over the years, I've felt another loss to music and to all the things he worked to change. His brother Tom, openned a show for Gallagher (weird bill -- but true) a couple of years after Harry's passing and after he closed with one of Harry's songs, you could have heard a pin drop in the rowdy comedy crowd. He meant a lot to a lot of us........ ......CaroL ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 21 Jul 2001 15:25:14 -0400 (EDT) From: "Vanessa C.
