An amazing CD, and they'll be at Makor in NYC on 7/26 with Pete & Maura Kennedy, whose new "Positively Live" is one of the most entertaining live CDs I've ever heard. Next is Lori McKenna's "Pieces of Me," her amazing follow up to "Paper Wings & Halo." She's taking a break from performing (as she's about to have her fourth kid), but when she's back, you should definitely catch her. She's special. Her pal Mark Erelli's latest one, "Compass & Companion," is terrific, too, with a mind-blowing title track duet with Kelly Willis. And thanks to Kerry Bernard, I've gotten turned on to The Be Good Tanyas, whose CD "Blue Horse" is an absolute hoot. I can't really describe them other than to say they're a cross between, um, Gillian Welch and maybe The Roches or the Carter Family. Great multi-instrumentalists, unique vocals, wildly interesting stuff. Kate Rusby's new one, "Little Lights," is great, too. Tops on my "disappointing releases" is Shawn Colvin's "Whole New You." Too slick for this folkie, sorry. Finally, upcoming CDs to watch out for: Gillian Welch's "Time (The Revelation)", due out later this month, Lynn Miles' "Unravel," due any minute, and of course, Dar's live CD in September. Ron G. already mentioned Dave & Tracy's Drum Hat Buddha. So, here are four more: David Gray's 'Lost Songs'. I really liked 'White Ladder,' but this one is amazing. Beautiful, heartfelt, spare, acoustic gems. How can you miss with a title like 'A Clean Pair of Eyes'? David Matheson's self titled solo debut. The Moxy Fruvousite goes solo, and he proves that he is a singer-songwriter at heart. He has said that he was influenced by many of the artists he heard at summer festivals. It's hard to find in the US, but you can get it at www.maplemusic.com. And you should. Who else is singing about bales of hay these days? Glen Phillips - Abulum. Another band-boy (Toad The Wet Sprocket) goes solo, and delivers a very personal, fun disc. A bit clumsy lyrically, but worth the trip. Sarah Harmer - You Were Here. OK, it was from 2000. Shoot me. Terrific writing and singing, beginning to end. And, July 17 is the official release date for Eddie From Ohio's 'Quick.' This is already number 6 on my list, and I haven't even heard it. Hope this helps. Say, isn't 'NSync due out with a new one soon?
