(now that's sort of Shindellian-- with the > story of the librarian and Gaileo's own book), not to make this the EP-list or anything, but I just have to share: I had the great pleasure of meeting Marylin the librarian and seeing that amaznig book by Galileo myself a few weeks ago. Marylin is a real treat - she has millions of stories to tell about every single book they have there and her eyes light up wonderfully when she gets all wrapped into those stories. They have an amazing collection of books there, if you ever find yourself in Norman, OK, go to OU and take a tour of the library of history of science - you won't regret it. > > Poor Richard, he's been in the shadow of Ellis Paul this weekend on his own > list. > not the worst shadow to stand in :) They should do a show together, that would be brilliant. Trading stories. It could be kind of like "on a winter's / summer's night" - one suggests a topic and each have to play a song that matches... I think they would make a great double bill. (Smokey, what do you say? :-) ) happy Sunday everyone, Katrin ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 20 May 2001 12:59:31 -0400 From: rich Subject: [RS] working it... Although I am truly a hard core RS fan, I really do also love Dar and Lucy. We saw Lucy open for Buddy & Julie Friday at the Bottom Line and she was just fabulous. When I looked at her touring schedule, she is pounding pavement man, I can't believe how hard these artists have to work to really cover all the angles. Just thinking about her schedule is making me stressed and weary. Same for RS, especially now that he is "International". Did you see Dar's touring schedule since last fall? I just want to say thank you for all the effort these guys put out! keep on rockin' or we'll all go home. Gotta tell ya, as much as I like Richard and Dave & Tracy and Lori McKenna and the like, sometimes you just gotta rock out, and last night at the Bottom Line was just what the doctor ordered. I'd never seen Buddy & Julie Miller before, but I can't remember the last show at which I was so thoroughly entertained. I only owned one CD of theirs, Julie's "Broken Things," so I had a hint of what to expect, and they didn't let me down. Buddy is simply a wizard on the guitar, and Julie's "Cyndi Lauper meets Betty Boop" stage presence is amazingly refreshing and nothing short of totally charming. And Lucy coming up to sing harmony on "By Way of Sorrow" was wonderful as well. Picked up one of Julie's other CDs, "Blue Pony," and was amazed to find the song "Face of Appalachia" on it. I couldn't place where I'd heard this song before, until I read the liner notes on which Julie thanked Valerie Carter for having recorded the definitive version. Geez . . . this must mean that Julie's been doing this, like, forever, since Valerie recorded that song on her debut album "Just a Stone's Throw Away" in 1977, when I was only, um, eight years old. ;-) Anyway, great, great show. Finally, Dave & Tracy's amazing new CD, "Drum Hat Buddha" is scheduled to be available this week through Signature Sounds, so be sure to order yours. I've had it for about two weeks, and it's simply fantastic. The opening cut, "Ordinary Town," is quickly becoming my favorite D/T song (outside of "Kate," of course), and the rest of the CD is nothing short of perfect, with "236-6132" and "Merlin's Lament" being two of my other favorites. They're gonna be at Makor with Pete & Maura Kennedy on July 26. I know a lot of folks will already be on their way to Falcon Ridge, but if you're around, this is a show not to be missed. Our great-grandfather was listed as residing in Peterson, NJ, rather than Paterson (not to mention the misspelling of our grandmother's home town Tollegno, Italy to Tollegano...guess those folks weren't the most accurate spellers). Anyway, we decided that "Somewhere near Peterson" just doesn't have the right sound to it. Of course, if I'd actually looked CLOSER at the liner notes, I would have realized that Julie didn't WRITE the damn song . . . Lowell George did. Duh. Are you listening, Charlie! I would like to see Ellis cover "Summer Wind, Cotton Dress" and Richard cover "Angel in Manhattan".
