I just have to pop into this Stan Rogers discussion for a moment to say that I find myself both mildly freaked out and sappily sentimental. If you had told me when I was 6 years old, and my grandfather was dancing me around the living room to his well-worn Stan Rogers albums, that someday, in the course of my job, I'd actually be *discussing* Stan Rogers, I'd have giggled in your face. The image of my grandfather bellowing "Now I'm a broken man on a Halifax pier! The last of Barrett's Privateers!" emblazoned on my memory, Kerry :) =========================================================== Kerry Bernard kerry@younghunter.com Young/Hunter Management 781.643.2773 (ph) 350 Mass Ave, #230 781.643.0416 (fax) Arlington, MA 02474 http://www.younghunter.com =========================================================== ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 10 May 2001 16:43:36 -0400 From: patrick t power Subject: Re: [RS] New Music Ron opened the flood gates: <> Well, since you asked . . . Eddi Reader with a PASSION!! This woman is one of the finest songstylists I've ever heard (*and* a good writer). The CD that has absolutely refused to leave my CD player for the past few days has been Richard's "Somewhere Near Patterson." I only purchased the CD last week thanks to suggestions from some lovely Ellis Paul fans (you know who you are), and can't believe now that I waited so long. I am completely and totally enthralled. I'm not usually so immediately taken by an artist and desire to listen to the same CD all the way through many times over. I ordered two more of his CD's and will also have some other new music to accompany him (if I ever do end up removing him from the CD player, which is uncertain at this point). I'm hearing many names I'm not familiar with in the replies so far, and some that I love dearly, like Don Conoscenti, whose new album is also a favorite. And as for the CD's I ordered, they include Peter Mulvey (Katrin's praises of him were what pushed me over the edge :), Susan Werner, Jonatha Brooke's latest, Over the Rhine, and Vigilantes of Love (yes, I splurged a bit :) ~Shell ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 10 May 2001 21:10:00 -0400 From: Katie Mahoney Subject: [RS] She went down last October in a pouring driving rain . . . Quick note from reclusive Katie who should be studying for the Psych exam she's going to fail whether she studies or not, but as long as she has no choice, she might as well check her email: I'm a HUGE Stan Rogers fan!!! I'm not sure if there are many people could do Stan's songs justice, but Richard is definitely among them. I think it's definitely time for Mr. Shindell to add some good boisterous sea chanties to his repertoire . . . Ciao!
