During the intermission I was tuning her guitar for her and this older guy walked up and asked me about the guitar, a Martin Shenandoah. We talked about how Martins just aren't built like they used to be. He was really nice. After everyone went home Deb's manager walked up and asked if I had met Blackie before. I said I had not but he was nice and we talked about guitars, songwriting, etc. She said, "Actually he has written quite a few songs over the years," and handed me a CD by Leo Kottke, saying, "See, right here, Sonora's Death Row is one of Blackie's." I about died. Small freaking world. It's funny, we didn't even exchange last names, but his email is blackieholler at something dot something. We were just a couple of guys enjoying the music. Of course I invited him to see RS at the Freight on 5/10 and maybe we'll get to hear it. It was one of Richard's encores last July and my favorite live cover. Did he play it at any of the taped shows? - -- john andrew clary "The music business is a cruel and shallow money trench, a long plastic hallway where thieves and pimps run free, and good men die like dogs. There's also a negative side." ~Hunter S. He stopped, thought for a second until the lightbulb came on, then started again. This time he completely SKIPPED the second verse, and proceeded to forget the lyrics to the THIRD verse. So he stopped and said "Well, I know we got a good take last night," and went on to play "Nora" instead. So I'm pretty much betting it'll be on the live CD.
