Where DOES that music come from? Yeah, one person in particular who comes to mind is Melissa Ferrick, who has gone public with her bouts of a panic disorder. She's so energetic in her shows -- and generates such an, um, enthusiastic response in her fans -- you'd never think it, but she says she is working to solve the problem. Deb ===== You can take the rock band away from the girl and think you've tamed her. But, she'll just pick up an acoustic, give you that innocent little girl grin, quietly laugh and say? "Nevah!" We taped both shows but truly feel that the second was much better than the first. Please let me know if you can either, 1) Return the favor with clean copies of other shows for trade. or 2) Agree to pass it on (for free, obviously) to at least 5 rabid RS fans. Not much to add to Gene's review, other than to add a few songs that he didn't mention: "Fishing," "Are You Happy Now" and "Memory of You" (the last two with Lucy). Other ramblings: The new song, BTW, is called "Hideous Grin," and it's, um, interesting. "The Courier" was the single best song I've ever heard Richard play. After the Monclair show, I'd asked him if he'd consider adding to the set, because it seems to be what I think is the most perfect statement about who he is. He said he'd consider it, and I'm glad he did. It definitely seems like a perfect opener for the live CD. "4th of July, Asbury Park" was simply magical. I was sitting there, shaking my head, thinking "This ISN'T happening," but indeed it was. I kept waiting for the song to tumble out of control -- heck, Richard has enough problems remembering the words to his OWN songs -- but they NAILED it. He really tried to make "Sonora's Death Row" work, but the heavens were against him. First take, he forgot the lyrics to the second verse. So he stopped, regrouped, and started again. This time, he completely SKIPPED the second verse, and proceeded to forget the lyrics to the THIRD verse. So he gave up, told us the story behind the song, and did "Nora" instead. Lucy was really wonderful, tweaking some of her harmony parts and adding a lot to the performance, plus contributing a lot to the spirit and energy that was clearly in evidence last night. That's about it. One of the best RS shows I've ever seen. And, as show #38, that's saying a lot. Now onto three shows this week: Shawn Colvin (Bottom Line), Kris Delmhorst (The Living Room), and Dar (Stamford). And Dave & Tracy in Montclair next week. Then I can die happy. Hey all . . . As attractive as the offer of tapes from last night's show is -- and hey, who wouldn't want to relive such a wonderful concert? -- it's generally accepted that we don't publicly trade boots on the list. Especially ones that are going to be part of an "official" release. I'd be a hypocrite to say that it doesn't happen back-channel, but let's try to be cool about this, ok? I mean that! It would be less painful. Though I am not sure if that would be more true for me or for him after I finish beating him with one of his books. LOL.
